Lil Helper Cloth Diaper Review

I received a diaper at no cost for review purposes. I was not otherwise compensated for this post, and all opinions are my own. In 2011 I reviewed Lil Helper cloth diapers. Lil Helper is one of my favorite diaper companies because of their humor, great customer service, and Baby Do Good program. Take a look at their mission for a taste of their great sense of humor. I’m so happy that they’re still in business nearly three years later, and have made some great improvements to the diaper.

I donate my review diapers to Giving Diapers Giving Hope so I can’t do a side-by side comparison, but I will point out what has changed about them and why you might want to try them!

Lil Helper’s previous version came in several styles, and each had a different inner and soaker. Though I really liked the super soft outers of the previous bamboo diapers, their diapers now have a high-quality PUL outer, that doesn’t have any wicking issues.

Diapers have 3 rise settings and easy to use snap closures, with an overlap. They came very close to fitting my skinny 7.5 lb newborn!

Now instead of having fleece, bamboo or charcoal bamboo inners, all diapers have soft fleece inside.

Soakers now have fewer snaps for an easier to use configuration, though you still need to use the small, or the large & small together (you’d have exposed snaps if you used the large alone.)

You can choose cotton, bamboo or charcoal bamboo inserts, and they even have an overnight insert now. The new inserts have 8 layers vs. the older version’s 7, and rather than bamboo jersey, the inserts now use bamboo terry with the terry on the inside. This gives you the same soft, smooth feeling of the jersey, but with more absorbency. I did find that they got a bit fluffy after washing!

The charcoal bamboo ended up a bit longer than the bamboo, though both fit in the diapers well.

My 26ish pound 2.5 year old is in-between the medium & large rise settings of some diapers, so it took some trial & error to get the right fit on him. Here he is in the medium rise setting with the bamboo insert.

I got a better fit with the large rise setting, and I found that the insert was absorbent enough that there was no trouble just snapping in a fresh insert (charcoal bamboo below.)
