20 Ways Having a Toddler is Like Having a Cat

Ways having a toddler is like having a cat

Have you ever had a toddler meowing at your ankles being a “kitty?” Ever considered how much a toddler really has in common with a cat? Aside from starting out tiny & adorable and being too cute to be mad at for long, toddlers and cats have even more similarities.

20. You find a stash of missing items piled in a basket/behind a bookshelf/under the bed.

19. You move the couch & find a row of toys just beyond your cat/toddler’s reach.

18. They will intently stare at something you can’t see and totally creep you out.

17. You have no idea what they’re so mad about.

16. Randomly wake up energized and ready to play at 2 AM.

15. Irrational fear of baths.

14. You’re not sure where their mouth has been, but you accept their kisses anyway.

13. They will bring you “presents” like a rodent, or maybe a handful of half-chewed raisins.

12. They love to lay on piles of laundry (or maybe that’s just my toddler).

11. You can’t wrap presents while they’re around or they stomp all over the paper & bat at the ribbon.

10. You usually have someone at your feet staring or trying to climb on your lap while you use the bathroom. If by some stroke of luck you have the door closed, you’ll see little paws poking underneath.

9. They bat things off of tables for sport.

8. They love boxes. If I fits, I sits. In fact, they prefer the box or wrapping paper to the toy inside.

7. Strange sleeping positions/places.

6. They suddenly decide they hate their favorite food after you buy an industrial sized case of it.

5. Razor sharp claws that can be difficult to cut without some hissing and scratching.

4. They love to weave around or stop short in front of you causing you to nearly trip over your own feet.

3. They can be serious bedhogs.

2. You have to deal with poop on a daily basis. You often find non-food items in said poop. Who eats a sticker?? Toddlers and cats. That’s who.

1. The cuddles make it all worth it. Mostly.

None of my toddlers have ever had cat-like reflexes, but there’s always a first. 😉
