Ashley wonders:

What’s better? Pail with liner vs wetbag for storing dirty diapers?

Hi Ashley. When I began using cloth, I planned to use a liner in our Diaper Dekor & keep essentially the same setup I had use with disposables. However, my stash started out so tiny (3, then 3 more, then one at a time for a while) that I was washing constantly, and took diapers directly to the laundry room.

As I got more diapers, that routine stuck, and I used a hanging wet bag in the laundry room as my diaper pail, and just walked diapers there each time I changed them! I’ve been doing this for almost 3 1/2 years now and it’s working just fine.

What do you use?

I’ve gone both ways, and for me, it all comes down to the layout of the bathroom. Whatever keeps them out of the way! I probably like a pail and liner a little better because, as Carolyn said, the pail simply holds more. Plus, I always got nervous near laundry day when the hanging wet bag was super heavy on the doorknob– it usually spent the last day on the floor anyways because I was afraid the doorknob couldn’t bear the weight. One other nice thing about the pail and liner is that it’s really easy to scoot it close to the toilet so you can transfer the freshly sprayed/dunked diaper right into the pail without dripping across the room.

I really like my Planet Wise hanging wet bag. I like that you can move it pretty much anywhere without having to make room for it. It holds a good amount of diapers without holding more than can fit in my washer. Maybe if our bathroom were bigger and we needed something to fill space, I would consider a pail and pail liner, but I just don’t have room for one.

Even the XL wet bags I’ve tried don’t hold as many diapers/wipes as a pail and liner (unless you really smash them in there or something? I’ve never really understood how they can claim to hold so many diapers, when I never am able to fit that many dirty ones!) so we use the pail/liner at home and wet bags for outings and traveling 🙂

I’ve always used a liner and pail. At first when my babies were EBF, I kept it in the nursery. When I started solids, I moved it to the bathroom where I would be cleaning off the diapers.

I’ve been wanting a pail liner for home but have just been using my wetbags. They work fine for me.

I use a wet bag and a soil bag for diapers
