Primal Pit Paste Natural Deodorant from Abe’s Market – Review

I purchased this with a gift card I received as a thank you for being an Abe’s Market affiliate. I was not asked to write, nor was I compensated for this post, and all opinions are my own. Post contains affiliate links. I’ve tried a few natural deodorants, and while I’ve found some I like, I have yet to find one I love. Well, until I tried Primal Pit Paste. Abe’s only had Lavender or Lemongrass Thyme scents, and while I don’t typically love lavender, I really enjoy the natural scent of the lavender PPP.

With other natural deodorants, there seemed to be an adjustment period, but I didn’t find this to be true with Primal Pit Paste. In fact, the first day I tried it, I was surprised that my “pits” felt more dry than they normally do with the heavy duty, aluminum laden anti-perspirants.

Primal Pit Paste contains organic coconut oil, organic raw grade A (fair trade) shea butter, non-aluminum baking soda, organic arrowroot powder and organic or wildcrafted essential oils.

I just used a pea size amount under each arm and rubbed it in. I tended to apply in the morning & at night, but didn’t really feel the need to reapply repeatedly throughout the day. Also, it never stung or irritated my skin, even when I applied it right after shaving. Your mileage may vary but I was surprised. The jar I purchased retails for $8.95.

PPP also has stick versions (they use beeswax to make them work in stick form) and tons of yummy scents. They even have kid-friendly options like lemonade and orange creamsicle, so I will definitely be picking some up for my 9 1/2 year old. They have strong versions if you need it, and also light if you are sensitive to the baking soda. Though it seems to be a men’s scent, I really want to try the Royal & Rogue (and the stick type!)

2015 edit: I still love PPP. I strayed in April to regular anti-perspirant before an event I was holding, thinking I’d need extra oomph. I ended up with an inflamed cyst below my underarm that had to be surgically removed (and it was awful). I will not stray again. A reader alerted me to PPP’s referral program so if you’d like to buy Primal Pit Paste through my link I’d love you forever and you will be so happy!

[…] I got their ads for weeks. Call me a sucker but these sometimes work on me. I’d bought Primal Pit Paste and had poked around their site considering buying a stick. As their ads followed me around it […]
