5 Easy Ways to Reduce Your Environmental Impact and Save Money

If you click & buy, I may receive a small commission, thank you. None of us want to leave a huge carbon footprint, but the idea of completely overhauling your lifestyle is daunting. Never fear, there are some very simple things you can do to reduce your impact and save money too.

      5. Replace incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs. Though they seem more expensive up front, I’ve done that math and determined that they “pay for themselves” very quickly! If you find your children constantly leaving lights on, install motion sensing switches.
      4. When replacing appliances, shop for energy efficient alternatives. Often, there are rebates and/or tax credits available to make them as affordable as their less expensive counterparts. (I found this to be true both with my water heater and my HVAC system, both of which I’ll be writing about in the future.)
      3. Install a smart thermostat like Nest. You’ll use less energy without any of the hassle. (I’ll be sharing my experience with the Nest soon too!)
      2. Choose reusable products whenever you can. Do you remember hearing: “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” in school? Cloth shopping bags and a stainless or glass water bottle pair wonderfully with a recycling bin and compost bin!
      1. Shop secondhand! I do not often buy myself new clothing, but when I do, I always check thredUP. It saves money, I have more options than whatever is currently “in-style” in stores, and of course buying secondhand is always the smart choice for the environment. Use code WOMEN50 to you receive 50% off your first order (new customers only), for a discount of up to $50

Did you think 1-5 would all be cloth diapers?

What’s your favorite way to save money while saving the planet?
