Bamboobies Reusable Nursing Pads

IMG_5029

Did any of you snag the Bamboobies deal of a trial pair for a penny plus shipping? Shipping was $3.95, so I looked at it as paying $4 for the pair, rather than getting a “free” pair, but it was still a pretty good deal considering that 2-packs retail for $16.99.

The regular Bamboobies have a super soft layer of bamboo velour touching your skin, an absorbent hemp core, and a moisture resistant outer layer. (3 layers of material, two of which are absorbent – Bamboo velour layer is 70% bamboo rayon, 28% OCIA certified organic cotton and 2% polyester, hemp layer is 55% hemp/45% organic cotton, waterproof layer is polyester with urethane waterproofing.) They are heart shaped to fit you without wrinkling, and are appropriate for light/daytime leaking. Bamboobies also makes overnight pads that have 3 layers of absorbency: outer layers are 80% Rayon from Bamboo – fiber Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified – 20% Recycled Polyester, inner layer is 55% Hemp, 45% un-bleached GOTS Certified Organic Cotton. These breast pads to not have a waterproof layer, are round, and retail for $16.99 per pack of 2 pairs.

The only other reusable nursing pads I’ve used are the Geffen Baby hemp nursing pads. They are more comparable to the Bamboobies overnights since they are 3 absorbent layers of 60% hemp/40% organic cotton (no waterproof layer) and are round. Those are available in hemp jersey ($7.99/3 pair) or hemp fleece ($8.99/3 pair.) You can purchase directly from the company, The Cloth Nook or from my affiliate, Dearest Diapers.

I rarely use nursing pads since I’m not a huge leaker anymore. Both pads absorbed 1 tsp of water with no trouble and without leaking through to the other side. Hemp does continue to gain absorbency through up to 8-12 washes, and absorbs better/more quickly with pressure (like in your bra) vs just pouring water on it like I did. Both brands are made in the U.S.A.

Some of my affiliates carry Bamboobies, including: Mom’s Milk Boutique, Squishy Tushy, EcoMom, Hopper’s Baby Haven, Kelly’s Closet, Abe’s Market and Amazon.com

You can browse the Bamboobies website, “like” Bamboobies on Facebook and follow Bamboobies on Twitter.

Have you used reusable nursing pads?

I purchased the pictured items at the same price available to everyone at the time. This post contains affiliate links however, all opinions are my own!

I have two pairs of Bamboobies. I’m not a fan of the way they feel when they get wet (really cold), and sometimes they stick to me and really hurt coming off! (but the disposable do this too) and lastly, they don’t seem quite absorbent enough for me. I’d like to try a different brand of reusable pads and am thinking of trying Geffen Baby’s. But I can’t decide if I’d prefer the hemp jersey or the hemp fleece? I’ve been happy with my disposable pads, actually, but I feel the money would be better spent on reusable. I’m just afraid of purchasing them and then being disappointed.

You might prefer the fleece…they are really quite affordable ($7.99/$8.99 for 3 pair) so if you have a friend (or two) that wants to try them too, you could get a pack of each, split them and not be out much if you don’t care for them!

I got my $4 Bamboobies & I can’t wait to use them in December with baby #2. My first time nursing I just bought some reusable ones at Target, or Babies R us, or some other local retailer (I don’t remember anymore) and these just seem SO much nicer! I’m quite certain I’ll be ordering more 🙂

Great review! Love Bamboobies! I have a ton of the heart-shaped ones as well as night-time ones… love them both and so glad I invested in them early on. Definitely a “must” product that I mention to all my pregnant friends. 🙂
