Cloth Diapering Mailbox Mondays

Cloth Diaper Advice – Mailbox Mondays 7/30/12 – Cloth Diapering Boys vs. Girls

boys vs girls #clothdiapers via @chgdiapers

Do you have a question about cloth diapering? Every Monday, I answer a question, and ask you to give your opinion too.

Questions don’t have to be cloth diaper related, just email maria at change-diapers.com with “Mailbox Mondays” in the subject, or fill out my contact form for readers, which you will always be able to find on my Contact Page.

Another suggestion for a topic to address was how cloth diapering a boy vs. a girl is different.

I have cloth diapered 2 boys, but my oldest child, a girl (now 7 1/2) was disposable diapered (shame on me!)

The big difference is that (generally) girls will need more absorbency in the middle, while boys need more up front. Similarly, boys may not do as well with really “low rise” diapers, and might do better with a sized up diaper that sits closer to his belly button.

On the other hand, girls sometimes need absorbency up front, especially if they are tummy sleepers!

Have you cloth diapered both a boy and a girl? What differences did you notice?

I’m having a girl and have heard to make sure the middle and back are well covered. I guess it all depends on your little one! I will just have to learn fast!

I only cloth diaper our third child. he is a boy and i fold doublers in half and put them into the front of the diaper. We are ok with low rise diapers, as Thirsties AIO or Grovia AIO with that method, even for naps. For night time we only use fitteds and have no problems. He also sleeps some time on his belly.

I have had a lot more leaking with my boy. I almost never had any leaks with my daughter. I find myself going for the more bulletproof fitteds with him instead of my trusty pockets. Sometimes I’s take an extra insert and fold it in half to place up front in my son’s diapers. He is a pee machine.

I have to agree, the only real difference is where to put the absorbancy, otherwise the difference is the color of the diaper!
