gDiapers Medium & Large + gCloth Small & Med/Lg/XL Review

I have been curious about gDiapers since I began cloth diapering. They are fairly well known, and are one of few readily available cloth diapers (they even sell them in my small, local organic store.) Vine.com carries them, and sent me several products so I could review and share with you!

gDiapers are well known for their disposable inserts, which may be composted (wet only) or torn, swished and flushed.

I received the gCloth inserts to use with the gPants. A pack of 6 inserts retails for $28.49 and you can choose small, or medium/large/extra-large. They are comprised of 2 layers of 55% hemp/45% organic cotton fleece, and 2 layers of microfleece.

Below, I’ve measured the inserts before washing and after washing:

The inserts are half natural fabrics and half synthetics, so they do get a bit bunchy after prepping, since the natural fabrics shrink a good bit, while the synthetic fabrics shrink very little.

What is unique about gDiapers is that the outer cover is not waterproof, but the snap-in pouch is.

The gPants have hook & loop closures that close in the rear of the diaper. They are a super-sticky type of H&L where the hook portion is smooth, hard feeling plastic teeth. If you’ve seen this style before, you know what I’m talking about.

The gCloth has laundry tabs for the closures, and also has a sort of “hip snap” (though it’s not a snap!) to prevent “wing droop.” There’s perfectly placed loop for that to catch on for laundering.

What I like most about gDiapers is that the covers are made of outrageously soft, knit jersey. They have wide elastic at the front and rear.

I think it’s fair to call gDiapers an “all-in-three” system since the waterproof portion is a snap-in, fully elasticized pouch.

Swap out your disposable or cloth insert at every change, and if the pouch is soiled, you can swap them ($19.99 for a 6-pack) and re-use the gPants. Pouches come in only 2 sizes, like the gCloth, so your money goes a bit further.

First up is the size medium gPants in Global Love print ($21.99 each.)

gDiapers #clothdiapers from @vinedotcom via @chgdiapers 22

Size medium is estimated to fit 13-28 lbs. Not only are the leg openings and waist bands stretchy; the entire diaper is stretchy. Below, I’ve measured the diaper folded and fully stretched, then again after laundering and with the pouch snapped in. The pouch is what limits the stretch!

Here is my 19 month old, 22ish pound son in the size medium gPants:

It fit him just fine.

I measured the size large (26-36 lbs; $18.29 for solid colors) the same way, first folded & stretched, then folded & stretched after washing & with the pouch snapped in.

With the pouch snapped in, there isn’t a huge difference between the medium & large. A little bit of rise, but mostly width for a bigger baby/toddler.

Here’s my son again at 19 months and 22ish pounds, this time in the size large gPants:

Despite being well under the weight minimum for the large, it fit him quite well. The key is making sure the pouch is snug against baby’s skin.

A 22 lb baby would likely be a medium, though it can really vary based on the baby’s size and shape.
