How to Easily Clean Out Your Velcro – Hook & Loop or Aplix Cloth Diapers

I purchased this item myself. Post contains affiliate links. Hook & loop closure diapers need occasional “cleaning out” to keep them in tip top shape. Whether you just want to help them stick better, avoid diaper chains in the wash, or if you’re getting ready to sell your used cloth diapers, you probably do this (or need to.) You can sit picking fuzz out with your fingers, use a Snappi (which I’ve done) or get it done quickly with this handy tool.

The MSRP of the Grip Clean is $6.99. Since I’m dumb, I didn’t realize this when I ordered it, and paid more for it (but I got “free” shipping. *facepalm*) Anyhoo, even though I paid more, I am in love with this little doohickey!

It’s super compact (I keep it in my laundry room), is easy to grip, and slides closed to cover the bristles.

The wiry bristles remind me of a pet brush, but the length and size are perfect for cleaning out hook & loop.

A couple swipes…

and whoa.

Even my most neglected diapers look brand new! I’ve been keeping my Grip Clean in the laundry room where I stuff and stack diapers, so I can easily give a diaper some attention as needed. It’s addictively satisfying; I want to search the house for other Velcro to clean. 😉

Do you clean out your hook & loop? How do you do it?

Is it easy to clean the stuff out of the device, then?

A tiny bit of stuff sticks at the very base of the bristles (you can see that in my photos) but it doesn’t affect the use. It is super easy to just grab the clump of stuff out!
