Little Owl Cloth Diapers – A Unique All in Two – Review

Change-Diapers received a product at no cost for review purposes. No other compensation was received and all opinions are our own. I first saw Little Owl cloth diapers at the RDIA conference last fall, and had the pleasure of meeting the owners. I really liked what I saw and wished I had known about them when my boys were smaller! We received a size large AI2 for Katie to review and I’m happy to share our thoughts with you.

Little Owl shells are sized with small fitting 0-6 months or 7-16 pounds, medium 6-18 months or 13-26 pounds and large 18+ months or 24-34 pounds. Shells retail for $13.95 each and the sized system means you’ll get a much trimmer fit on smaller babies.

The snap closures include a hip snap to avoid wing droop.

The snap-in inserts are what really make this system unique.

These sized soakers snap into shells securely and have elasticized edges and a PUL backing to contain messes and keep the shells clean between changes. Their generous shape reminds me a bit of a disposable diaper.

In addition to the PUL backing, soakers have 3 layers of microfiber for absorbency and a layer of stay-dry microfleece to keep baby dry. Soakers retail for $11.95 each. If you need extra absorbency, you can pick up a pack of two sized boosters (3 layers of microfiber + stay dry microfleece) for $9.95.

The inside of the shells are also lined with cozy fleece.

Snap in a fresh soaker at each change (or rotate between shells) and the soaker’s unique design will keep the shell’s inner clean.

Most families will likely need just 2-3 shells per day.

The front and rear of each soaker has an additional strip of PUL to prevent any wicking onto the shell.

I tried the large on my son, who is slender at 3.5 years old and under 30 pounds.

Katie used it on her 15/16 month old son who is chunky at 30 pounds. She really likes the trim fit on him and finds that the snap in inserts stay put, which is important on a little one who is always moving!

Katie loved the PUL backed soakers and found that they kept the shell dry even when he soaked them (like right after nursing). The elasticized edge kept messes in and she was able to use it without a booster for normal wear and short naps. For longer naps and errands she adds a booster and still gets a nice trim fit with slight snap adjustment.

Little Owl Diapers are made in the USA and are an easy to use system and an excellent value.
