Milovia One Size Pocket Cloth Diaper Review

U.S. retailer Up On the Hill sells them, and they sent me one to review. 2015 update: Milovia diapers are now carried by Squigglybugs (affiliate link) in the U.S.

I received the happy animals print but there are lots of great prints to choose from.

The diaper has snap closures (with an overlap) and the rise snaps down to fit babies from 8-35 lbs with 3 rise settings.

Milovia diapers are made with European fabrics, and the inner is Coolmax fabric. The fabric is silky and has teeny holes in it (like an athletic material.) I have a pair of training pants with a similar inner, but this is silkier & has smaller holes. The benefits of Coolmax are that it’s soft, breathable and resistant to stains (which we found out the first time we used it and he pooped, of course.) The pocket opening is in front and there’s a generous flap to cover it. The leg elastic is encased and the rear elastic is super wide.

Diapers do not come with inserts, but you can purchase small, medium or large separately. The large insert folds down to fit in smaller settings, but will of course be a bit bulkier, particularly since it’s somewhat thick. Labeled as microfiber, the inserts are not like anything else I’ve seen. Instead of the flat microfiber terry feeling I’m used to, this insert (I received large) feels almost spongy.

It’s very hard to describe, but I appreciate that it doesn’t have that creepy microfiber feeling that sends shivers up my spine. Despite that, I personally do not care for the Milovia inserts as much as a regular microfiber insert. When I used this as my son’s “first diaper of the morning” it ended up leaking out the legs a bit. I assumed it was because he usually wets heavily in the morning, and I may have waited a bit too long to change him. However, when I pulled the insert out, the front was still dry and only the middle was wet. In any case, the diaper is sized such that you could also use just about any other insert or prefold instead if you prefer. Applecheeks and Geffen Baby inserts/prefolds are both great in this diaper.

My son is a very petite 23 month old (I’m guessing 23ish pounds?) and while we had a few newborn diapers not work well (heavy wetter, chicken legs) I have yet to find a one-size diaper that didn’t work for him. Sure, some fit him a bit better than others, some need an absorbency boost, but they all work. The first time I put the Milovia on him I thought this diaper had been made for him. It fit him so perfectly with no gapping or drooping, no re-adjustments needed. It just fit like a glove. I was sad when he immediately pooped in it, but that is a sign of a toddler’s affection for a new diaper, right? 😉

Milovia diapers are not exactly cheap at $28 per diaper and $5 per insert, but the fit has me wishing they had some solid colors available.

I always donate my review diapers, but I think I’m going to have a hard time letting go of this one!
