Naturepedic Organic Twin Mattress for Kids – Review

naturepedic

I received a complimentary product for review purposes. All opinions are my own. Post contains affiliate link. Naturepedic isn’t a new name in our home. It’s been nearly two years since I published my Naturepedic Organic Crib Mattress review. When my resistant-to-change 4-year old was finally ready to move out of his toddler bed into a twin, I knew I didn’t want him sleeping on a traditional mattress; I’m so careful about what goes on and in my children’s bodies, but the idea of what they are sleeping on just didn’t cross my mind until a few years ago. Assuming that the twin mattress we purchase for our kids will be used for many years, we set a pretty big budget when we bought my now 8 1/2 year old’s mattress. While it is very comfy and cushy, knowing what I know now, it kills me that she’s spending so much of her time laying on a literal bed of chemicals.

Naturepedic mattresses are USA made (from USDA certified sources of USA grown organic cotton!) and provide all the safety and comfort with none of the chemicals or allergens found in other mattresses. You won’t find latex, wool, flame retardants, polyurethane foam, antibacterial treatments or biocides, glue or GMO cotton in a Naturepedic mattress. Mattresses boast a long list of certifications, ensuring that your new mattress contains only organic, non-toxic materials and has been tested for chemical emissions. When you buy a Naturepedic mattress, you are buying a great night’s sleep for you or your loved one, while supporting a US business, its workers (skilled Amish craftsmen) and US farmers. Mattresses are backed with a 20 (yes I said twenty) year warranty.

The quilted deluxe mattress comes in a 1-sided, no flip design (what I received) or a 2 sided mattress. Choose from twin, twin XL, full, queen or even trundle mattresses. We chose to use a bed frame that did not require a box spring, but Naturepedic also offers standard or low-profile foundations.

The mattress has medium-firm support that is incredibly comfortable (if you read my crib mattress review, I laid on that and that was amazingly comfy, nothing like what you’d expect from a crib mattress.) The 14.5 gauge steel coil inner springs alternate directions, and there is heavy duty edge support for durability. (360 coil count for twin size.) Despite the lack of fire retardant chemicals, the mattress meets all flammability standards (this is because the mattresses do not contain highly flammable materials that in turn require the addition of flame retardants!)

The 1 sided twin mattress retails for $649, and while it’s tough to put a price on your child’s safety, I think the extra investment is 100% worth it. We laid on eleventy-billion mattresses, and this Naturepedic is as comfortable as similarly priced premium/pillowtop mattresses, yet it is also USA made, organic and chemical-free. I can rest easy knowing that my little big guy is sleeping on this mattress. When my 21 month old is ready for a twin mattress, I won’t be looking anywhere else. We are trying to whittle out space in our budget for a loft bed for my daughter, and when/if we do, it will be topped with a Naturepedic mattress as well.

My 3 little monkeys all love this bed! Naturepedic also offers a 2 in 1 Organic Cotton Ultra twin mattress that has organic cotton waterproof fabric on one side, allowing you to use that when it is needed, then flip to the quilted side when you are through with the bedwetting stage.

I am about to order the same mattress for my 4 year old. I know it’s been a long time since you post but I just wanted to get your answers first. Are you still happy with the mattress? what does your kid think about it, is he still happy? Thanks for your time.

Hi! I know this is an old thread, but I am wondering how your mattress is holding up? Do you still love it? We went to look at them today and this one feels comfortable but I am nervous after ready so many reviews that state otherwise. I”m also planning to cover it with a thick wool topper. Thanks!

Came across your review as I was researching a big kid bed. I too like one post mentioned only came across negative reviews for naturepedic on amazon. I wanted to know if your son is still enjoying his mattress? Thanks!

He loves it and we have no problems! I haven’t read any other reviews but it sounds like I need to. We’ve had it for a year now, but he’s only about 35 lbs so maybe we’ll have trouble as he gets bigger/heavier? I think someone said they were getting lumpy?

I hope you see this comment! I have been driving myself CRAZY trying to find our son a reasonably priced organic mattress. I read your review and lots of others. Many of them discussed how the mattress is way too firm and lumpy. Since there is no showroom near me, I cannot try it out first which is a lot to spend sight unseen. Can you comment on how it feels and how it’s holding up? Thanks.

April, my daughter has a pricey Stearns & Foster mattress, and this isn’t plush & luxurious like that, but we haven’t had any trouble with it being lumpy or falling apart. All 3 of my kids think it’s comfy!

Great review! We have two of their crib mattresses and are considering getting the twin. I love this company because they are so green and recently did a couple posts on them on my green parenting blog, about avoiding PBDEs and PFOAs. (www.wadingthroughsoup.blogspot.com). Does the mattress seem like it will last a long time? I wish we had a store that stocked them to try them out in person.

Are you still liking the 1 sided twin mattress? We are moving my son to a twin bed…his brother has the organic crib mattress……and I can’t decide between the 1 sided and 2 sided. I’ve read mixed reviews on the one sided on Amazon. Thanks!
