Should You Buy Stainless Steel Appliances? (Flow Chart for Moms)

In the market for new appliances? Thinking about stainless? Check out my handy dandy flow chart to help you decide (tongue firmly in cheek.)

Stainless

It’s an ongoing joke for me to ask whose dumb idea it was (it was mine) to choose stainless steel appliances, with 3 sticky fingered kids in the house. Yeah yeah, I know someday my appliances will be clean, and I will miss the little fingerprints. Although a certain someone tries to blame the palm prints at the top of the fridge on the little ones too. Mmm hmm…

I still want stainless even though I have kids. I guess because I’ve never had it before.

It’s beautiful when it’s clean. I love the way my kitchen looks (when the counters/table isn’t covered with junk, LOL.)

My sister has no children or pets and she says her stainless still needs daily polishing. I think it is lose- lose all around!

If you open & close by the handles, it isn’t too bad, but using your hand to shove it closed or resting your palm on the door while you peruse (*cough DH *cough*) means you have to clean again. Plus dribbling water from the dispenser makes it dirty too. Since when does water make something dirty?? LOL

Love this chart! We were just buying a new Microwave, and we were deciding what type to get, my hubby was all excited and said we should get stainless steal since it looks so nice, I laughed and said, “We’ve got 3 kids and a dog, how long do you think it’s really going to look nice?”

From a mom who has had 3 NEW washers in the
Last 4.5 years, please excuse my bluntness, but in my experience, you are crazy for replacing old appliances unless it is a major reason. The new ones are not built to hold up. And they are way to expensive to replace every few years.
I totally agree with the view on stainless too!

YIKES! We bought our first washer in 2002 when we built out first house & moved it to our next house. Left it when we moved in 2008. We’ve had our current washer since 2009 and I hope not to replace it any time soon. My MIL JUST replaced the washer she bought when DH was a little boy, and he is in his 30’s!

I have fake stainless steel and love it – the front looks like stainless, but it isn’t and I can still put up cute pictures my kids create since magnets still work!
