Three Monkeys One Size Pocket Cloth Diaper Review

3 monkeys 1

I normally prefer solid cloth diapers over prints, but for some odd reason, I’ve been dying for an “elephant walk” print diaper. I didn’t want to end up with a print I liked, but a diaper I didn’t, so I was excited when I saw that AMP diapers used this print. Unfortunately, I had to eventually give up after an unsuccessful search for the print at a U.S. retailer. At that point, I turned to my old buddy google.

Google led me to Three Monkeys Cloth Diapers and the one-size pocket diaper that I ended up purchasing. The diaper was only $16, with free shipping and a bamboo fleece soaker. Seemed almost too good to be true, so I really wasn’t expecting much.

At the time of my purchase, the wait time for a custom was 5 weeks. After 5 weeks, I sent an email to find out the status of my order. I didn’t get a response, so I went ahead and filed a Paypal claim to protect myself before the 45 day window ended. I felt like a jerk immediately when Three Monkeys responded that they hadn’t received my email, they were sorry that they weren’t working faster than the 5 week time frame on customs, and my diaper was ready to ship. They were courteous and professional, and were understanding when I said I would still leave the claim open until I received the diaper.

The diaper is very nice and very well made! It has snap closures with 4 snaps on each wing (more than I prefer, but it does prevent wing droop.) There are 4 rise setting via a snap down rise, and closure snaps alternate male & female with one on the top row & one on the bottom. This is simply a method some diaper makers use to minimize waste on diapers & has no other significance & doesn’t affect diaper function. There are also overlap snaps to fit tiny babies.

The diaper has a front pocket opening with a flap to cover the soaker, and additional PUL reinforcing the snaps. You can choose the inner of the diaper to be microfleece, suedecloth, minkee, bamboo or cotton.

I was shocked by how nice the included soaker was. The diaper is so nicely made, and I expect to pay a bit more for WAHM diapers. At just $16 with free shipping, the bamboo fleece soaker was a nice surprise. You can upgrade to a microfiber or foldable insert if you prefer, but the loop style soaker is perfect for me. I can put the absorbency up front for my son, but someone with a girl can put it in the middle. The loop style also helps it get cleaner, and get dry faster.

Here is my son at not quite 7 months old, 14.5-15ish pounds, in the medium setting. He could also wear the small setting, but I prefer a higher rise diaper.

I love my Three Monkeys diapers! Stacey as is a great WAHM to work with and her customer service is fantastic. In my experience, I didn’t have to wait nearly as long as the advertised custom wait time. The only reason we don’t use these diapers much now is because they’re cut a little bit on the short side and I have a very long baby.

I also stumbled across Three Monkeys after searching for a good diaper in a particular print. Now they are our absolute favorite diapers! We have been using them for a while and had to get some more, which just arrived this week. It took even longer than the 5 weeks, but I had a large order and some very specific requests that I knew might take a while. They are defiantly worth the wait! She is very easy to communicate with and does great work. My last order was a 13 pack, which is buy 10 get 3 free, so only $160 for 13 great diapers. That’s only $12.31 per diaper! The “basic” bamboo fleece inserts that come with them are wonderful and my only inserts that I always use by themselves (no doublers). They loose some of the softness after more washings, but get very absorbent. One tip: always wash the new inserts by themselves for the first couple wash/drys during prepping or you will be picking fuzz off of everything else. They only shed fuzz like this when brand new.
