I joked on my Facebook page that my phone wants me to become a hermit because anytime I go near my calendar, the call is dropped. Well, I think I fixed the issue (knock on wood!) so I thought I’d share in case anyone else is having this problem.
We haven’t had a home phone for 10 years now. We were living in the next county over and our home phone was long distance to most friends & family, so they just called our cell phones. I got sick of paying huge sums of money every month for telemarketers to call us, so we cut the cord. All fine & dandy until I upgraded to an iPhone 6 from my old 4S and suddenly could no longer rely on it for phone calls.
The phone didn’t care if I was on a business call, talking to another Mom about a playdate, arranging an appointment or talking to my insurance agent. Quite often people could hear me but I couldn’t hear them. Just as often, the call would drop and sometimes I’d have to restart the phone to get rid of the “no service” message. Can you say annoying? The fix took a few seconds and the phone has worked like a dream ever since.
First click the settings icon, then select cellular.
Choose “enable LTE.”
Select “data only”
Then enjoy your functioning smart phone.
The LTE network is supposed to be “faster” but for areas like mine where coverage is spotty, well, coverage is spotty. Turning it off fixed the problem completely, instantly.
Have you had this issue? Did you try this fix?
How is this article in any a “fix”? It is a mere complacent “I settled” config change. A fix will mean you have not deprived yourself of LTE speed and fidelity. Please use the “Fix” word properly.
Did not work for me. My issue is not with calls but with very slow data. AT&T says no problems with towers near me. Switched to new SIM card and still new problems.
That stinks.
Hi Maria — I am having the same problem with a new iPhone 5s. My 4s never dropped a call; this one drops EVERY call. I went to Settings to try this fix, but I don’t have an option to restrict LTE to Data…guessing this option doesn’t exist any more in iOS 8.4? Anyway, writing to ask if you have any suggestions — this is driving me crazy!
That’s the most frustrating thing!! I haven’t updated mine so I still have that setting as pictured. I looked and it seems like 8.4 should still have a setting to turn LTE OFF if you go to settings, cellular, enable LTE—>OFF.
I am slow to update for these very reasons so let me know if you don’t have this setting and I will look more!
Thanks Maria. I used to praise ATT for never dropping a call. As soon as I updated to IOS 9.1, the problem started. I think the IOS automatically changes the setting. I just made the change as you have suggested, and I am going to take a walk to see if it works. Will keep in touch. Go Buckeyes!
I hope it works!
Generally speaking, I don’t have a problem with dropped calls except every now & then but it happens consistently with Best Buy’s card member customer service 888 number. I hope I never have to call them again. Meantime, I changed my cellular setting to data only.
Have the same problem and tried you solution but while it helps a little I still have dropped calls, unable to make a call, and other connection problems. Wish I knew who to call at At&t to complain about lack of quality service
Ugh I’m sorry you’re still dealing with this. It is SO irritating!! If you figure it out, come back & let us know.
