This post was originally published on the Kelly Wels blog. Cloth diapers are amazing, but did you know they can come with side effects?
A New Hobby – who knew cloth diapering could turn a humdrum (and sometimes gross) task into something fun? Next thing you know, your phone will be full of “stash shots” and “on the bum” shots. Which leads me to the next side effect…
New friends – whether you strike up a conversation with a mom in the park after spying cloth on her baby, or frequent cloth diapering groups, this common interest may draw you to new friends! Oh, you’re a cloth diapering mom? Did we just become best friends?
Becoming more “green” – After dealing with dirty cloth diapers, you may be seriously considering reusable cloth pads and menstrual cups. Eliminating disposable diapers as waste in your household budget and garbage might just make you hyper-aware of where else you can eliminate waste. Whether it’s napkins, paper towels, or even toilet paper, many families are inspired to nix another disposable product as well.
Pants fit better – OK so this one is really only true for those of us with long, slender babies but if your child’s pants are always falling down (or if they fit at the waist, they’re too short) just add a fluffy diaper underneath to fill them out! (Psst, have the opposite problem? Check out Project Pomona Pants)
Bonus: Triumphant feeling when you don’t have to run to the store for diapers before a storm!
If side effects persist for more than two minutes, tell everyone you know about cloth diapers.
