Every Monday I will answer user submitted questions. They don’t have to be about cloth diapering! I’ll always answer questions via email, but if you would like your question to be answered in a Mailbox Mondays post, send an email with the subject “Mailbox Mondays” to Maria at change-diapers dot com.
I am looking for submissions for late October and beyond!

What’s the best natural fiber doubler that is inexpensive and effective?
Heidi
For natural fibers, I like hemp. Very absorbent and naturally anti-bacterial. Bamboo/cotton blends are also great!
Unfortunately, natural fiber products are also more expensive than their microfiber counterparts, and natural fiber doublers aren’t as easy to find as full-size natural fiber inserts..
A small Baby Kicks Joey Bunz Hemparoo (13.5″ long and 6″ wide at it’s widest) retails for about $5.00. I really like the organic cotton/bamboo doubler that came with my Blueberry Bamboo diaper, but I don’t think the doubler is sold separately. The one size insert and doubler sell for $8.00.
Bethany says:
How many scoops of Tiny bubbles do you have to literally use on dirty diapers with an older washing machine?
Bethany
Tiny Bubbles is designed for cloth diapers, so I would suggest using the recommended amount (not 1/4 or 1/2 like you would with a standard detergent.) I believe that would be two scoops in a top load washer with normal water (use less if you have soft water.) If you don’t already, I’d suggest doing a cold wash (without detergent) first to rinse the diapers, then a hot wash with the detergent.
So how about you guys? Have you used Tiny Bubbles? How much do you use? Do you have a favorite natural fiber doubler?
My post on The Village of Moms today is about my experience with baby wearing. I’d love for you to check it out!

When I was expecting my daughter (she’s 5 1/2 now) I did a little research and thought I’d want to try FuzziBunz Perfect size diapers. 6 years ago, there just wasn’t the wealth of information that there is now (or if there was, I didn’t know where to find it!) So, I thought this was an appropriate review/giveaway to start my one year cloth-iversary event!
I knew I’d probably need around 25 in each size however, I (wrongly) thought I would need to buy XS, S, M, L and XL diapers which is no savings over disposables. That, combined with the cost of washing (we had city water with outrageous out of city water/sewer rates) and already feeling overwhelmed with the idea of new motherhood, closed the door on that!
I’m sure you’ve already guessed that I’m kicking myself now! Their site says: “Did you know that most babies only go through two sizes of FuzziBunz® from birth to potty training—Smalls from 0-6 months and Mediums from 6-36 months?” I could swear that wasn’t there six years ago, ha ha! I know now that my daughter probably would have needed just Small and Medium, perhaps some XS as well. I could still be using them for my son now!
My son was about 14 pounds when we started cloth diapering at 4 months. I have tiny little peanut kids, so at 16 months now, he’s only about 18.5 lbs. I have mostly one-size diapers because I thought it was more cost effective that way, but my son is still in the same size medium settings he wore at 4 months old (though I probably could have used small then if I wanted to.)
(I do have a FuzziBunz one size diaper, but I don’t care as much for the fit when it’s on a smaller setting.)
They have a PUL outer, snap closures with the diagonal pattern (though this one doesn’t have the third hip snap that creates the befuddling triangular snap pattern.)
They have a microfleece inner to keep baby’s skin dry, and a pocket opening for the microfiber inserts.
This brings me to the perfect size shocker. As soon as I took it out of the package, it seemed huge! I checked at least a dozen times to make sure it really was a medium, and then I started wondering if I’d received a mis-labeled diaper. It is far larger than any other medium, larger than the largest setting of the one-size diaper, huge!

FuzziBunz O/S, Largest Setting |
No, really. It’s big! That makes me think that FuzziBunz perfect Size would be an awesome choice for bigger or special needs children. XS is estimated to fit 4-12 lbs (preemie to 4 months), Small 7-18 lbs or 0-8 months (I think my son could probably still be wearing a small), Medium 15-30 lbs or 6-36 months, Large 25-45 lbs or 12+ months. They also have specialty sizes for Petite Toddlers, and Extra Large.
There it is folded and stretched. For comparison, here’s a Bumgenius 3.0, medium:
Finally, A Bumgenius 4.0 on the large setting, stretched, and a FuzziBunz one size on the largest setting, stretched.
I promise, I’m not trying to make this entire post about how OMG big this thing is!
