Jill needs:

any cures for itchy pregnant skin, particularly.. scalp. Oh my. goodness. it’s awful. doesn’t even have to be natural and how long does it last? using dandruff shampoo doesn’t even last the whole day. and yes I’m SURE it is dry scalp please don’t suggest anything else. I have enough pregnancy paranoia as it is…

Oh my gosh, I am getting itchy just thinking about this. That was one of the worst things for me during pregnancy – it would literally keep me up at night! Skipping soap & using a mild cleanser helps, as does moisturizing before leaving the shower, and throughout the day. Coconut oil is an excellent choice. I’ve tried all sorts of moisturizers & oils and none fully relieved the itch. I’d consider massaging coconut oil into your scalp an hour or so before showering, then wash your hair with a sulfate-free shampoo to avoid stripping your scalp.

The itching was so unbearable, I can’t even imagine dealing with something like PUPPP!

Did you find a great cure for pregnancy itch?

not sure if anyone checks back here, but it didn’t start until pregnancy (normally my hair is really horribly oily, like using a hair stripping shampoo every single day bad).. what I’m currently using is a dry scalp version of head and shoulders with almond oil I think in it…

Dandruff and Dry Scalp are two completely different things If you are treating dry scalp for dandruff you may make it worse. http://www.diffen.com/difference/Dandruff_vs_Dry_Scalp

wash less, use oil, drink lots of water. I agree with maria, you need to find a very gentle shampoo.
My scalp it very dry and does not produce much oil. I often use aveeno baby shampoo as it is more gentle.

My sister had ICP (inter-hepatic choleostasis of pregnancy (I don’t mean to freak you out Jill, honestly)), but she used a lotion called Sarna, and it worked wonders for her. Gold bond anti-itch lotion works well, it’s the one in a blue bottle. You can find both of these at Walgreens/CVS (I would call ahead to make sure they have it). They smell a bit menthol-ish, kind of like eucalyptus or vicks vapor rub, but work amazingly well! (They even on mosquito bites.) I don’t know if you really want to slaver it into your hair, but it’d probably work. I hope you get some relief! =)

Oh man, I didn’t have itchy scalp, but I had an unbelievably itchy belly with my first (I had to be careful not to scratch too much because I was worried I’d break the skin! It was SO MISERABLE!) I’m pretty sure baby oil helped that the most (coconut oil and cocoa butter didn’t help at all) but mostly I just had to live through it until it passed 🙁 Scalp, though, that sounds rough! Good luck!
