I was lucky and won a Bumkins Dr. Seuss Cloth Diaper Bundle in size large from Knocked up and Nursing!
The bundle came with three AIO Diapers, which retail for $17.95 each (list price $24.95.)
Three absorbency inserts (retail $9.95 for a pack of three)…
and a wet bag (retail $9.95, list price $10.95).
My first impression of the diapers were that they reminded me of Kushies diapers, and that they were huge! Here is one (bottom) compared to some other diapers I had in the laundry room:
They are very wide, and also had a fairly high rise. Keep in mind that my measurements aren’t an exact science. I noticed that I didn’t have it folded exactly in half in the second picture here:
The elastic isn’t very tight, so it didn’t get too much bigger when stretched:
Since the instructions said the diapers would shrink, I decided to wash and dry one three times to give it a fair shake. While I was doing that, I took a look at the wet bag.
It measures 13″ x 11″, has a drawstring toggle closure, and has simple construction.
It’s not enormous, but it held three of these big diapers just fine!
So after three washes (drying in the dryer between washes, to make it a little faster)…
It looked exactly the same! The blue diaper had been prepped, the other had not. I went ahead and tried it on my little guy anyway.
It was way too big! With that leg gap, I didn’t dare leave it on him, so I took it off. While I’d certainly use Bumkins (in a smaller size) if that were my only option other than disposables, I’m a little shocked by the price. They do come in cute prints, but they cost as much as Bumgenius pocket diapers, even as much as the Bumgenius Organic AIO if you go based on list price! I can think of at least a half-dozen diapers that have more bells and whistles, for the same cost or less. I was truly surprised when I looked at their site and saw the price, I thought for sure they would be around $10 each.
I don’t want to sound ungrateful, I am very thankful to Knocked up and Nursing for the giveaway, especially getting it to me so quickly, even though she had just had a baby! That said, I think I will be donating these to The Cloth Diaper Foundation, so another family with a bigger baby can pad their stash!

I haven’t tried this diaper yet, but I just wanted to do a quick update for anyone reading this review. I just bought one at a local store that sells baby and children’s items. They also sell Bumkins diapers. I had store credit from a few used items I sold to them, so I decided to try it out. It was only $9.95 for the AIO, and $5.00 for the covers. I got the AIO. It looks like it will fit my guy pretty well-he’s a big boy. What I’m trying to say is if you want to try this diaper out, you can find them pretty cheap now. Bumkins has a bunch on clearance on their website, so does Nicki’s Diapers. I am not affiliated with Bumkins…haha, I’m just letting you know they are cheaper now if you want to try them!
>Wow and thanks for the honest review.
>Bumkins were one of the very few cloth diapers that fit my older DD well so we had a stash of them! But the fit is not right for younger DD so they have all been passed along now. I'm a little sad because I *loved* them for older DD & the prinits are awesome!
>@Hannah,I think they are only online. I was very surprised to see all that they now offered. As of this past spring, when my baby was born, they only had Bumkins and BG.
>I think the cotton against the skin feature would be nice also for a family of a larger toddler if they were getting ready to potty train.@Karolyn. That is interesting that Target now sells other brands. I have never seen them there, are they only online, or only at certain stores?
>If they were cheaper (and smaller) they'd be fine, I juat think they're way overpriced for what they are! Love the prints though!Target used to have BG online too. Ours doesn't have any cloth in the store!
>I stand corrected, they are no longer available through Target, but holy cow! Target now sells Fuzzibunz, Thirsties, and Charlie Banana! I have to get out more.
>These are also available through Target.com, correct? I seem to recall not reading very good reviews for them and they were mostly due to the fit. But yes, those prints are adorable!
>Yikes! Still can't help but love those prints, though. 🙂
