Orange Diaper Co. Bamboo Terry Square (Flat Cloth Diaper) Review
I am participating in the flats challenge and will be using mostly flour sack towels as flats. (Sign up for the flats challenge!) I snagged some Hemp Babies Flats for night time use, but when Orange Diaper Co. had some bamboo terry squares available, I just had to get one. I had been checking for a while and had managed to miss them every time! They are made of bamboo terry (duh, ha ha) which is like a super soft washcloth or robe.
I’m not going to lie, these are quite pricey. The newborn size (16″ x 16″) is $8, the infant size (what I bought, 23.5″ x 23.5″) is $12 and the toddler size (28 x 28) is $14. I bought the infant size, but in hindsight I wish I had bought the toddler size. Anyhoo, I did have a few dollars in my Paypal account from surveys I’d done, but I don’t know if I could have brought myself to pull the trigger if I didn’t intend to write about it here. You get to choose the thread from a gorgeous rainbow of colors, and it was very hard to choose; I wanted one of each.
BUT it always feels good to buy something from another mom and know that I am supporting a small business!
The bamboo blend is very stretchy, which makes it difficult to accurately measure!

Here my son is 5 months old and in the 13-14 lb range. The bamboo terry square is origami folded, snappi’ed and shown under a size 2 Swaddlebees capri cover on the smallest rise setting.
The toddler size would obviously be very bulky on him since the infant size fit him so well, but it would also get you nearly 232 square inches of extra material. That’s a huge difference in absorbency, and it did seem kind of skimpy when folded to fit large diaper (right) vs. small (left.)
It was quite fluffy in the small setting (right/blue) compared to a medium superdo (left/black.)
I used it overnight, and while it was totally soaked, it didn’t leak! I am kind of wishing that I had bought the larger size, and after using it, I can see the benefit of using one of these, even without handwashing factor. They are very absorbent, and the single layer means they will be much easier to get clean (a difficult task with night time diapers!)
Shipping costs are quite expensive these days, so this was pushing $17 by the time postage was added in. I almost tried to justify buying a few more things to make the shipping cost worthwhile. Tee-hee! If you can get over the initial sticker shock, these bamboo terry squares are great night time absorbency without the usual stink issues.
FTC compliance: Product was purchased by me at normal retail price. I was not asked to write, nor was I compensated for this post, and all opinions are my own.
Did you find the bamboo flats to stretch and sag after a while? Another cd’ing mama said that happened to hers 🙁
They’re stretchy, but they seem to shrink back up when I dry them!
Sorry for the typos :/ lol is there any way to try these used or without such a huge cost???
I was curious waht size you wiuls recommend for s 15 lb 5 month old? I like the oragami fold the most but really dont want a HUGE bulky diaper! But do want absorbency! I currently use gmd and diaper rite size large flats 🙂
My son was 5 months old and 14 lbs in the pictures above so I’d go with the same size! You can check diaper swappers and cloth diaper trader for used ones…if you want absorbency without the bulk, consider trying a Geffen Baby hemp flat! Here’s my review: https://change-diapers.com/2012/10/geffenbaby-hemp-flat-clothdiapers-review/ and here they are on their website: http://geffenbaby.com/products-page/flat-diapers/hemp-jersey-flats/
