We Bought A Breville Juice Fountain Juicer (6 Months Ago)

My husband and I have wanted to buy a juicer for at least 10 years, but we hadn’t been able to squeeze it into our budget. No, I didn’t choose this particular juicer because of Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead (free to watch if you have Amazon Prime), but I suspect that’s why it was one of the highest rated juicers on Amazon! Anyway, I thought now that we’ve had it for almost 6 months, I’d tell you what we think!

We didn’t buy the juicer to “juice” or “fast”; but to enjoy some yummy, fresh juice and enjoy the benefit of easily adding lots of veggies to our diet. This juicer wasn’t cheap by any means, and I was concerned about how difficult it would be to clean/put together, and whether we’d continue to use it regularly after the newness wore off.

It is very easy to set up once you’ve done it a few times.

It looks nice enough to leave it out on your counter if you have the space!

I also wondered what recipes would be nutritious and actually taste good. What worked best for me was to start with an apple/carrot blend, then add small amounts of other things to see how it turned out. I found that some things (like broccoli and cucumber) overwhelm the flavor of the juice if I use much.

I waffled between this juicer, and the Omega. Things I read said that a masticating juicer (like the Omega) was better for juicing greens, but the Breville has a much wider mouth for feeding fruits/veggies in. I decided that so-so greens juicing was worth it to not have to cut everything to fit in the juicer!

If I turn the juicer on, then put leafy veggies in, they are spit out pretty much whole! My husband figured out that if you wrap leafy veggies up inside a collard green leaf (making a sturdy “package” to juice), they juice much better. It also helps to drop it in and press it into the feed chute before turning the juicer on. Hopefully that doesn’t end up damaging the juicer!

The juicer has a toggle switch to select high for hard foods, or low for soft foods. The big, red button turns it off!

Obviously, the juicer isn’t exactly quiet, but I think our vacuum and coffee grinder are both louder.

Lining the refuse bin with a bag makes clean-up even easier. I usually wait until it’s full and then empty it into the compost. When the bag is gross, I throw it away. Of course, that isn’t as environmentally friendly as scraping out & washing the bin each time, but I’m OK with that.

The juicer came with a brush that has a tool at the other end to help clean pulp out of crevices.

I don’t drink my juice until I’ve cleaned the juicer, but it doesn’t take long at all. If I’m going to use it again soon, I rinse the parts & leave them in the sink. Otherwise, I squirt a little dish soap in the sink, and swish the parts in warm, soapy water. The mesh screen is very easy to get clean if I do it right away. The scrubby brush gets it clean with very little elbow grease.

Overall, I’m very happy with the Breville juicer! Do you have a juicer? What is your favorite “recipe?”
