I got a tiny peek at the Thirsties Newborn AIO when I stopped by their booth at ABC this fall, and Thirsties was kind enough to send me one when they were available at last!
I hate that all these great new diapers are coming out now, instead of when I was cloth diapering a newborn! The newborn AIO is essentially a tiny version of their one-size AIO, which I like very much.
The newborn AIO does have a simplified snap configuration, but has the same style absorbency as the OS AIO. There are 3 layers of microfiber in the soaker, which is topped with microfleece, and one hidden layer in the body of the diaper, which is also lined with microfleece. The diaper has two rise settings as well as an umbilical cord snap down.

I was disappointed that the duo pockets were discontinued because they were one of my favorite cloth diapers on my newborn. Well, I’ll tell you what, Thirsties knows what they are doing. Here’s the newborn AIO compared to a size 1 duo pocket:
Its largest rise seems similar to the smallest rise of the duo pocket, meaning it’s much more likely to fit tiny babies, particularly under the cord.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the duo aio (which isn’t pictured but is similar to the size of the duo fab fitted below) and I think this is an excellent replacement.
Though I don’t have a squish, Amii tried the Thirsties newborn AIO on Oliver at 5 lb 10 oz. He is not using the cord snap down here because he was 13.5 weeks old (born at 25 weeks/1 lb 9 oz) but it fit well with the wings pulled up.
The diapers are estimated to fit babies from 5-14 pounds and retail for just $14.75 each (prints included). I think this is an excellent price for a newborn AIO, particularly since they are made in the U.S.A.!

Maria wants to live in a world where cloth diapers are the norm and moms can make parenting choices without judgement. When she’s not chasing her 18, 14 and 11-year old kids around, you might find her checking out the latest gadgets, organizing something (again) or exercising in the fresh air. 
I use them and was extremely pleased with them between 6 lbs 14 oz and 9 lbs. But she is now at a point to where she is in between waist snap sizes (too big with 3 snaps showing – leaves gap in one leg and waist – too small with 2 snaps left undone) and are experiencing leakage in waist and one leg.
What was the absorbency of the Thirsties NB AIO?
I’m expecting a baby in January. I cloth diapered my last from birth in 2011. Thirsties didn’t have the NB AIOs back then and I’m very interested in them but trying to avoid the absorbency issue I had with a lot of our NB AIOs.
Amii was pleased with the absorbency compared to many others. I haven’t used it myself of course since I don’t have a newborn.

I bought 2 to try on my newborn and love them! he is 1 week old and weighs 6 lbs 14oz. They are great for nighttime usage.
