Change-Diapers received a product at no cost for review purposes. All opinions are our own. Cub Snacks is a new twist on the subscription box idea. Their fun snack project kits contain everything you need to create a healthy snack with your little ones along with a recipe guide, fun facts sheet and quiz. You also get two aprons in each box, along with chef hats (which I didn’t realize were chef hats – I thought they were packing paper, oopsie!)
Just as important as what’s in the box is what’s not in it. Cub Snacks ingredients will never contain refined sugars, artificial colors, additives or flavorings, trans fats or GMOs. For families with sensitivities, you’ll be happy to know that the boxes won’t contain gluten or shellfish either. (May contain tree nuts, dairy, coconut or soy lecithin.)
My kids were so excited when the box came but it sat for quite a while because we had a very busy week including the loss of two of their great-grandparents. Cub Snacks assured me that ingredients were shelf stable, but I could refrigerate if needed.
My 6 year old sat this one out so my 3 year old and 10 year old snagged the aprons. You can also decorate them with markers and such before you get down to business.
The recipe is easy to follow and includes ingredients as well as their weights in grams so you can easily file it and make again on your own later. All recipes are tested and approved by kids from 4-10!
The kids loved that the ingredients were wrapped up like a gift!
Ingredients are pre-portioned and ready to go. Have you ever trekked to multiple stores and purchased large containers of various ingredients you only used once for one recipe? I think I’m probably not alone there!
My little guy mixed the dry ingredients, and my daughter melted the wet ingredients and stirred in. I love that this is so inclusive and kids of any age would enjoy it.
We didn’t do the most fabulous job of spreading and pressing the bars (our pan was a little bit too big) but we made it work!
The verdict? We will definitely be making these again. They were delicious! My daughter said they were tastier than the (junky) chocolate covered bars I occasionally buy as a treat. The recipe said they would keep for up to 2 months in the freezer so I stacked wax paper between them and froze. They are delicious right out of the freezer.
You can purchase Cub Snacks Kits as a single box for $36.99 or as low as $30.99 per month when you purchase a 6-month subscription. Initially this seemed pretty pricey to me but then I calculated how much 6 boxes of organic granola bars would cost (the recipe made 30 pieces give or take) and suddenly it seemed like a pretty decent deal! Like many subscription boxes you’re paying for the fun, the experience and the convenience just as much as the food. I like that we can try a recipe without spending just as much on ingredients, which may go to waste if the kids ended up not liking the recipe.
I think this would be a fantastic gift for kids who just don’t need one more toy!
