I purchased the pictured items myself. I was not asked to write, nor was I compensated for this post, and all opinions are my own. It’s actually not uncommon for kids to wet the bed until age 8 (sometimes even later.) Each child is different and boys in particular can take a bit longer. Certainly discuss with your doctor, but if medical issues have been eliminated, you have lots of options. You can do bedwetting alarms, waking your child through the night, limiting drinks etc.
We have taken a gentle approach and though we’ve tried several things, our son simply isn’t ready to stay dry every night. As is typical for kids not developmentally ready to stay dry at night, he will stay dry when he doesn’t sleep soundly (like when we are sleeping away from home) but otherwise sleeps right thorough it. Many families use disposable pull ups at night, which are outrageously expensive, and I know my son’s sensitive skin couldn’t handle them (we made the switch to cloth diapers because of this.) In our hope that this would be a temporary issue, we’ve made due with what we had, even using Bumgenius 4.0s with stretched out elastic, and stuffing them to the gills (with varied success – often pants were wet if not the whole bed.) I chatted with the ladies in the Super Undies booth at ABC and ended up ordering a pair of Super Undies nighttime undies.
The undies come in 4 sizes to fit kids from age 3 up to 9-13. We bought the size 2 for my petite (36ish lb) 5 year old.
The video above demonstrates them quite well!
The undies have 4 layers of microfiber built in and you can fold the soaker how it works best for your child. We added the step-up insert and tucked everything under the lining so he could easily pull them on and off.
The fleece waist & legs are comfortable for kiddos, and you can even flip the waist band down if needed. I initially thought these might be a bit big and wondered if I should have gone with the size 1.
Here I compared it to one of the Bumgenius 4.0s we were using on him (the leg elastic is completely shot, so it wasn’t too tight on his legs, but we had issues with leg leaks because of it.)
Here I have it stuffed with the extra insert:
Despite looking a little big around the legs, it worked wonderfully. He liked that he could easily pull them up & down, and that they don’t look like diapers. The next morning when his clothing & bed were completely dry, I ordered another 3 pair (buy 3 pair & get 3 inserts free.)
Each pair is $29.95 so I ended up spending more than $120 (since I bought one insert separately.) Looking on Amazon, prices for disposable pull ups vary wildly from about 40 cents each up to 85 cents each depending on size & brand. Assuming 50 cents per disposable pull up, I’d need to use these four for 8 months in order for them to “pay for themselves.” Let’s not even think about 240 disposable pull ups in the trash.
I hope he won’t need them in 8 months, and even if he doesn’t I can sell them, save them for my other son, give them away or donate them. I really wish I’d bought these a year ago!

I am SO thankful for those pictures of the diaper on your son! I’ve been going back and forth over nighttime diapering options and we tried the Mother-ease bedwetter pants which were FABULOUS, but they were just insanely poofy. It was fine when my son didn’t care what he slept in, but when he started wanting to wear Spiderman pajamas, he wasn’t okay with the fact that the diaper didn’t fit under any of the pajama shorts we found. I’ve been asking a lot of readers if they’ve tried the diaper and if they thought it was unbearably bulky, but sometimes you really need to just see it in person 😉 It looks like it might not fit well under snug pajama shorts, but I’m hoping I could at least buy them in Spiderman colors and that might be good enough 😉 Thanks for posting this at the perfect time for me!
They’re definitely a little poofy (that’s with the step-up insert added as well) BUT it’s worth it.
