Who Knew Babies Came with Time Machines?

OK not so much a time machine as a time speeder upper. Having children seems to turn your life clock into a ceiling fan. Yet simultaneously, time creeps at a snail’s pace.

My Transition from Working & Childless, to SAHM to WAHM

I always thought I’d want to be a stay at home Mom. This is simply my thoughts & experience. It isn’t intended to lift up or put down any group or type of moms. As careful as I think I was writing this, I’m sure someone will still feel insulted or offended. If you are, please know that was not intended. When I stayed at home with my daughter, I loved having the time to take her for walks, play outside and do things with her, but I always felt something was missing.

The Birds and The Bees Talk with Little Ones

Post contains affiliate links. If you click through and make a purchase I will receive a small commission. Products pictured/mentioned were purchased by me and I was not asked to mention them nor was I compensated to do so. We’ve handled the “birds and the bees” talks as an ongoing conversation, age appropriate and only answering what was asked. My daughter was 3 when we found out we were expecting her brother, and we purchased It’s Not the Stork in anticipation of all her questions. To my surprise, she ended up asking 10,000 questions about death, not birth! If I remember correctly, it began when she asked about Beethoven after we listened to some music, and got pretty deep!

Deciding Whether to Give Fluoride Supplements – My Experience

Fluoride - toxin or great public health achievement via @chgdiapers

Until my daughter was 4 we had fluoridated city water, called one of the “Ten Great Public Health Achievements” of the 20th century by the CDC. If you have city water, you’ll be giving your children fluoride by default, unless you use only bottled water for everything, including cooking. Our dentist explained that even if your child doesn’t drink tap water, eating pasta cooked in fluoridated water is enough and no more is needed. I didn’t think much more about fluoride until we built our current house, which has well water.

How Long Will Cloth Diapers Really Last?

How #clothdiapers age via @chgdiapers

I’ve said several times that I think it’s unrealistic to expect that a stash of 12-18 cloth diapers can be washed hundreds of times and still look brand new after 3 years. Some people disagree with me. I think a car is a good analogy. A good vehicle can go for 200k+ miles, but not without oil changes, new tires and maybe a few scuffs and scratches along the way. Rockin’ Green wrote a 5-part post about whether cloth diapers will really last from birth to potty training. The series included the lifespan of different materials used in diapers (I was really surprised at how short the lifespan is!), as well as things that can make diapers last longer or break them down. Today I wanted to share how my own diapers have aged.
