I’m participating in Dirty Diaper Laundry’s 4th annual Flats & Handwashing challenge. One week, no washer, no dryer, no problem. This is the 4th annual flats challenge, and my third year participating. My husband said “umm…didn’t you do this twice? Why do you have to do it again?” I don’t have to, but I want to (sorta.)
The first year, I was newly pregnant and sick as a dog. I gagged changing my son’s cloth diapers, and when it was suggested that I participate in the flats challenge the week of his second birthday, my response was (paraphrasing) “No. No, no, no no, no. No. NO. No.”
In 2012 the challenge was during my son’s third birthday and (woo hoo!) he potty trained right before the challenge began. My little guy was not quite 6 months old, and hand washing wasn’t too bad with a 100% breast fed baby. I learned a lot that year and the next year I braved toddler poop and did it again.
This year I have an almost 2 1/2 year old with disgusting dirty diapers, and an almost 5 year old wearing a diaper at night. I feel like this is going to be even more challenging. You’ve heard the phrase “put your money where your mouth is.” Well, each year I’ve done that by donating to Giving Diapers Giving hope following the challenge, but this year I’m putting my hands where my money and mouth are too. 😉
Wish me luck!

Maria wants to live in a world where cloth diapers are the norm and moms can make parenting choices without judgement. When she’s not chasing her 18, 14 and 11-year old kids around, you might find her checking out the latest gadgets, organizing something (again) or exercising in the fresh air.

good luck. we’ll be handwashing the first week of june (pockets with flats) lol so I’m not doing it twice. my lo is super sensitive as well to wetness so… you know. why make her rashy?
Good luck! 🙂
Good Luck Maria!!
