5 Cool (Albeit Unnecesary) Gadgets for Going Green

5 Cool Gadgets for Going Green via @chgdiapers

Here are a few Green Gadgets that have come onto my radar:

Wireless, solar keyboard

This wireless keyboard can connect to your iPad or iPhone via Bluetooth. So what? What makes it different is that it is solar powered! It can be charged inside or out and when completely charged it can work for up to 3 months, even with no new light source.

Smart Thermostat

There are several brands of smart thermostats that help you conserve energy. You can set it to automatically make your home cooler at night and warmer at wake up time so you don’t have to bolt from your warm bed to the shower, or shiver when you get out. It can automatically change the temperature while you’re away at work to save energy, and have the house back to your preferred temperature when you get back. Many can be controlled via your smartphone so if your plans for the day change, you can change your thermostat from wherever you are.

Nature Mill Composter

We’re had a Nature Mill composter for a few years and it’s a convenient, easy and fast way to compost. If you don’t have the space for a compost pile, if your HOA doesn’t allow it, or if you simply think you’d be more likely to stick to it if you just had to chuck it into the composter on the porch, this is for you. You can even compost things like dairy & meat that you wouldn’t typically put in a backyard compost pile.

WakaWaka Power+ Solar Charger

This little gadget is about the same size and weight as a smart phone, but the solar panel allows it to provide around 150 hours of light as a flashlight, or it can fully charge your smart phone in about 2 hours!

SodaStream

Still drinking soda? Enjoy seltzer? The Sodastream allows you to carbonate water at home in their reusable bottles, without electricity or batteries. Their concentrated flavorings (which come in recyclable bottles) are available in many flavors without high fructose corn syrup. We’ve had ours for several years now (received free for review) and most often just carbonate water to drink plan or add a dash of fruit juice.

Have you tried any of these? Have you found any other cool “green” gadgets?

We have a Soda Stream and we love it, we don’t really drink soda as much as we love seltzer!

Shoot, wish you’d put this out before Christmas when my mom was asking what I’d like! 😉 Now I have some new items on my wishlist for next year, at least! 😉
