Have you ever had the terrifying experience of your child choking? Would you know what to do? We’ve had a few “oh my gosh are you choking” incidents but only one really scary situation.
When my daughter was about 18 months old, we went to lunch after swim lessons at the YMCA and she choked on a small piece of chip. Legitimately no noise, not breathing…choking. I panicked, picked her up, instinctively whacked her on the back and she vomited everywhere and began breathing again.
She was fine but I was shaking like a leaf and burst into tears. To this day I think my husband thinks I am completely nuts but that memory and the fear is as vivid today as it was then, and she will be 10 next week.
This video from St. John Ambulance is under a minute long and very helpful for anyone with littles around. It’s very cute and definitely worth a watch.
