When I was expecting my daughter (she’s 5 1/2 now) I did a little research and thought I’d want to try FuzziBunz Perfect size diapers. 6 years ago, there just wasn’t the wealth of information that there is now (or if there was, I didn’t know where to find it!) So, I thought this was an appropriate review/giveaway to start my one year cloth-iversary event!
I knew I’d probably need around 25 in each size however, I (wrongly) thought I would need to buy XS, S, M, L and XL diapers which is no savings over disposables. That, combined with the cost of washing (we had city water with outrageous out of city water/sewer rates) and already feeling overwhelmed with the idea of new motherhood, closed the door on that!
I’m sure you’ve already guessed that I’m kicking myself now! Their site says: “Did you know that most babies only go through two sizes of FuzziBunz® from birth to potty training—Smalls from 0-6 months and Mediums from 6-36 months?” I could swear that wasn’t there six years ago, ha ha! I know now that my daughter probably would have needed just Small and Medium, perhaps some XS as well. I could still be using them for my son now!
My son was about 14 pounds when we started cloth diapering at 4 months. I have tiny little peanut kids, so at 16 months now, he’s only about 18.5 lbs. I have mostly one-size diapers because I thought it was more cost effective that way, but my son is still in the same size medium settings he wore at 4 months old (though I probably could have used small then if I wanted to.)
(I do have a FuzziBunz one size diaper, but I don’t care as much for the fit when it’s on a smaller setting.)
They have a PUL outer, snap closures with the diagonal pattern (though this one doesn’t have the third hip snap that creates the befuddling triangular snap pattern.)
They have a microfleece inner to keep baby’s skin dry, and a pocket opening for the microfiber inserts.
This brings me to the perfect size shocker. As soon as I took it out of the package, it seemed huge! I checked at least a dozen times to make sure it really was a medium, and then I started wondering if I’d received a mis-labeled diaper. It is far larger than any other medium, larger than the largest setting of the one-size diaper, huge!

No, really. It’s big! That makes me think that FuzziBunz perfect Size would be an awesome choice for bigger or special needs children. XS is estimated to fit 4-12 lbs (preemie to 4 months), Small 7-18 lbs or 0-8 months (I think my son could probably still be wearing a small), Medium 15-30 lbs or 6-36 months, Large 25-45 lbs or 12+ months. They also have specialty sizes for Petite Toddlers, and Extra Large.
There it is folded and stretched. For comparison, here’s a Bumgenius 3.0, medium:
Finally, A Bumgenius 4.0 on the large setting, stretched, and a FuzziBunz one size on the largest setting, stretched.
I promise, I’m not trying to make this entire post about how OMG big this thing is!
[…] Fuzzibunz perfect size are available in large and XL, and the size medium I had was about as big as most one-size diapers, so the larger sizes must be huge! The company has changed hands though, so I can’t say if they are still so generously sized. Happy Heiny had a large and XL pocket available, but I do not know if the new owners are continuing to make them. gDiapers has an Xl gPant available, though I have not seen/used them. Thirsties’ new one-size diaper has a longer rise than many other one-size diapers (it seems to be identical to the discontinued size 2 duo) and Applecheeks size 2 even have waist extenders available. Snap-EZ makes extended size stuffable training pants and pocket diapers and Dri-Line Baby makes a toddler AIO. Many other work at home moms, like Green Acre Designs, are able to make diapers in larger sizes. If you have a favorite WAHM, ask them if they have a pattern! […]
[…] had my medium FuzziBunz Perfect Size Diaper for about 10 months now, and I still love it. Naturally, I wanted to add the XS/newborn size to my […]
[…] really like my medium Fuzzibunz Perfect Size Diaper and an XS/newborn version was on my wish list (for if I ever get to cloth diaper a newborn, LOL. […]
>I've never heard of nurtured family, I'll have to look into them, thanks!! 🙂
>Hannah… My son was about the same size at 1 year. He's almost 4 and can still wear a medium FB. 😉
>Maria… Nurtured Family Contour inserts totally ROCK for overnights. At 2 months my son flooded two huggies or pampers a night but an FB with a Nurtured Family Contour insert did the job and he was leak free from then on. 😀
>My son wore medium FBs from 2 months to potty trained. He's almost 4 now and can STILL wear a medium FB. I tried all kinds of diapers and Perfect Fit FBs were the ONLY ones I really LOVED. Loved them so much that here we are 1 year post PT and I haven't let go of them yet. LOL
>I have always been hesitant to buy a perfect size diaper as my 2 boys are different sizes (almost 2 years, and 7 months) and I have been concerned about the sizes I would have to use, but after reading this I may look into it more! Thanks!
>Thank you
>I TOTALLY LOVE THE FORM!!!!.. Thanks for making it so much easier to enter..
>The # of entries went down from the alst update because I had to delete a handful of duplicate entries. 🙂 Remember to feel free to leave a quick comment on the giveaway post to remind yourself that you entered.
>Lilypad Mom, my son was about 14 lbs when we started CD'ing at 4 months and I don't think there's any way he would fit in this medium! He wore mediums in everything else though. My daughter was a tiny bit smaller than yours Ash, I wonder if she could have stuck to the smalls! I want to say she was around 24 (?) lbs when she fully potty trained, and a size 4 pullup was a bit big on her. She had just gotten on the growth charts, however many pounds that is, LOL.Kristen, what do you stuff with at night? I'm having luck with a loopydo (sometimes with an added hemp doubler). When my son was really flooding the diapers at night, a superdo worked wonderfully, and while thick, it was trimmer than multiple full size inserts!I just found it very strange that the medium was larger than the one size diapers!!
>Just a reminder that I entered!
>My guys are over 30 lbs and can still fit into the Med 🙂 But we did buy a handful of Larges for our triple stuffed overnight solution. We probably could have continued using the Med, but it was a tight fit with all that stuffing!
>Fuzzibunz Perfect Size were the first cloth diapers I purchased when I started using cloth when my daughter was 3 months old. So I got 12 smalls. She is now 9 months but only weighs 14lbs and is still on the 2nd to smallest snap for the legs and still on the smallest for hips. I have a feeling these dipes might last until she is potty trained!!
>I love the entry format! So much easier to do from my phone than comments! I have 1 perfect fit FB but it has taken forever for my daughter to get into it. I bought a Med. since she was already 13.5 pounds but that was July and she's justt 14 pounds now.It definitely gives her the fluffiest bum of all her diapers right now but I'm pretty sure it will last all the way through PT.Thank you for a great giveaway!
>Thanks for the review and giveaway. I have yet to try Fuzzibunz and have heard lots of great reviews…including yours. Thanks for the chance!bekki1820cb at gmail
>Thanks!
>I'm new to cloth so never tried FuzziBunz before. I heard great things about them. I hope to try them soon
>Hannah, my children are teeny little peanuts (obviously, you can see in the pics, my little guy is 16 months old and smaller than yours!) so they may very well last me through PT.But you never know, sometimes kiddos change shape as they get older and even mroe active, so those last few snaps might last you a while! 🙂
>Awesome giveaway! I love the Perfect Size and have a bunch of mediums. I'm not confident they'll fit through potty training though–at 1 year, 22.5 lbs, and 31.5", Fin is already on the outermost leg snap with just a couple more to go on the hip.
>I just recently switched from FuzziBunz one size to perfect fit. It's so weird that it seems like a completely different diaper. My son is at the small range of the Medium size. They work so much better! And you are right, they are huge! I hope he will be potty trained before he outgrows them. I hadn't realized that the insert is wider. Maybe that is why these ones don't leak!
>Can't even begin to tell you how much I love your entry forms! :oD
