Bummis Duo Brite Review

I received a product at no cost for review purposes. I was not otherwise compensated for this post, and all opinions are my own. Bummis is a brand that’s been around for about 2 1/2 decades, and for good reason. Their high quality products are made in Canada, largely from materials sourced in North America, and they are constantly innovating.

The Duo Brite AI2 system consists of quality covers (the Duo Brite wrap) in 2 sizes (size 1 fits 8 20 lbs and size 2 fits 20-35 lbs) along with Duo Brite inserts.

The inserts are sized like the covers, to provide maximum absorbency as well as a perfect fit.

The inserts are sewn down the center to draw moisture to the middle, as well as allow for faster drying. The inserts have organic cotton on one side and stay dry polyester on the other, so you don’t have to decide which to buy. The stay dry side is super silky.

I received the size 2 Duo Brite cover, which is the same great quality I’ve come to expect from Bummis. The cover has easy to use snap closures, and a snap down rise to get a precise fit. The gusseted leg openings help contain messes and the 2 mil PUL is high quality (and actually food grade!)

Inserts snap into the cover and switching from cotton to stay dry is just a matter of flipping the insert.

Here I’ve measured an insert before prep:

As you can see, it didn’t shrink a whole lot. Here it is with an unwashed insert:

Here is the size 2 cover on the smaller rise setting, measured folded & stretched (if you’re new here, this isn’t precise, rather I do this to give you an idea of size compared to diapers you may already have.)

We started using one of the inserts right away, since my 2-year old didn’t want to wait to try his “peshint” (imagine the word peasant with a “sh” sound – that’s him saying present. Too cute.)

In these photos, he is 2.5 years old and a petite 26ish pounds. It fit him very well on the smaller setting, though I probably should have pulled the back down a little bit and the front up. The front waist is stretchy elastic, but it doesn’t pucker – it has just enough give.

I really wish the size 1 had been around when he was a little baby! I was impressed with how absorbent the insert was, even before I’d prepped it. It is definitely a nap-worthy diaper for us.

Have you tried the Bummis Duo Brite?

I like how they’ve put double snaps at the waistband on size 2! However, I wish it didn’t have the front elastic. That’s the feature I wasn’t wild about on the new Simply Lite; on both mine, it would pucker up and turn inward or sag down.

So how do the snaps fasten so that the pokey part isn’t against the skin? Is the smooth side of the snap on the insert, and the pokey side on the cover? (Clearly I’m sophisticated and knowledgeable about snaps!) 😉

The snap is completely inside the insert so no part of the snap touches baby. Take a look at the photos to see what I mean.

Hmm, I did look at the photos but I guess I’m just having trouble processing them. So the snap is between the layers of the insert, and then you snap it to the underside of the flap in the front, so the insert goes both over and under the flap?
