Cloth Diapers

Giving Diapers Giving Hope Needs Your Help

I’ve been involved with Giving Diapers Giving Hope (GDGH) since 2014 (I think!) and it’s always been the favorite of my many “jobs.” Though it often involved many hours of work and was all volunteer, it is something I love doing.

Not familiar with the charity? GDGH ships cloth diapers to families experiencing diaper need, for the cost of shipping. Cloth diapers are a valid solution for many families, but the startup cost can be high. Allowing families to use a set of 16 diaper changes for as long as they need them, enables many to diaper their children without making decisions such as paying a bill, buying groceries, or buying disposable diapers. Many families are able to slowly build their own cloth diaper stashes while using the diapers sent by the charity.

Early this year, we shipped diaper loans for free and helped many families. However, that also meant we depleted our diaper supply many times over and had to place many orders for prefolds and covers. We are very fortunate that we have generous brands that allow us to purchase at wholesale. That said, we spent more than $6600 on diapers this year! That, along with nearly $5,000 to ship the diapers were our biggest costs.

We’ve put some calls out on Facebook for your help, and we are so grateful for those of you that have responded by donating diapers, making a one-time or monthly monetary donation, and asking how you can help!

In order to keep our doors open, we need to have regular monetary donations coming in to cover our monthly operating expenses (Quickbooks, telephone, website, annual tax preparation).

In June, we announced some changes (Kelly’s Closet has stepped down after many years of generously donating their time, Thirsties will now receive and ship all donations, we are no longer shipping used diapers or receiving used loans back).

BUT Thirsties is still on board to be our shipping partner, and I still want Giving Diapers Giving Hope around. Do you? Is there still a need, or do affordable diapering options and other diaper banks have the need covered? If so, that’s OK! GDGH has served tons of families in the past 7 years, and if our services are no longer needed I’m still happy we were able to make a difference in so many lives.

Emails like this one make it all worth it:

…the diapers helped us sooo much. They gave us the opportunity to start cloth. I think if I hadn’t [fallen] in love with the diapers you sent, I never would’ve been brave enough to spend the money to start a diaper stash. Your diapers allowed me to buy slowly and now I’m so thankful every week when I don’t have to have to decide what to give up to be able to purchase diapers!

Here’s where you come in. Can you make a donation? You can donate once in any amount, or donate monthly by checking the box on the Paypal page.

Every amount helps and if about 20 people pledged $10/mo, our operating expenses would be covered! Giving Diapers Giving Hope is a 501(c)(3) and donations are tax deductible.

How can you help? Make a donation if you can. Does your company have a donation match program? Take advantage of it! Shopping Amazon? Shop Amazon Smile instead. Share, share share. Thank you!
