Doodle Dypes AI2 Review

I received my Doodle Dypes all-in-two diaper a few weeks ago, and it earned it’s spot in my pile of favorites right away!

Sandy of Doodle Dypes makes many of her diapers custom to order. Mine has a cotton knit outer, hidden procare waterproof barrier and an organic bamboo fleece inner.

I love this print! I think the blue makes it suit my son, but the purple hearts would work for a girl too.

This is an AI2 with a snap-in soaker.

You can overlap the wings to fit a slimmer baby.

This definitely looks like a professionally sewn diaper, with even stitching and evenly applied snaps.

It is a “one size” by way of a fold down rise. One thing that’s unique is that the second row of snaps are hidden (applied under the inner layer) so when you’re using this on a smaller baby, no snaps will touch his/her tummy.

The all-in-two’s snap in soaker can give you 5-15 layers of organic bamboo fleece absorbency, depending on how you fold it.

Organic Bamboo Fleece needs to be prepped (washed on hot & dried on medium heat 3-4 times) and will gain maximum absorbency after about 10 washes. Sandy pre-washes all of her fabrics before sewing, so you don’t have to worry about any uneven shrinking.

I’m able to get a good fit with or without folding down the rise. The fit looks a little strange in that picture for some reason, but it’s not!

It fits wonderfully around the legs too.

I was anxious to get the diaper on him, so I only washed it once.

The absorbency is fantastic.

Our Doodle Dype is in our regular rotation. In fact, my son is wearing it and sitting on my lap right now!

We have even used it on car rides with no leaking, and it doesn’t have the wicking (at the legs) issues that some diapers with a cotton outer & hidden PUL have! I do know that the cotton outer will fade and wear over time. That’s just the nature of a cotton knit fabric.

A Doodle Dypes all-in-two will need to be changed at each diaper change, it isn’t the hybrid type where you can just change out a soaker. Each one retails for $20 and you can shop Doodle Dypes on HyenaCart and visit Doodle Dypes on Facebook!

The Eli Monster AIO Diaper Review

I spotted this diaper on The Eli Monster’s Hyenacart store a few months ago. I was surprised to see that it was still “in stock” at the beginning of April when I had some money burning a hole in my paypal account. I bought right before the owner was due to deliver her daughter, and the item’s page said shipping would be delayed by about a week. I wasn’t worried since it was in stock, and I knew she hadn’t had the baby yet (I’m a “fan” on Facebook and was watching for updates!)

What I didn’t know is that the “in stock” items are simply items available for purchase, but they are made to order. I hadn’t thought to check her about me page, where I would have seen the estimated 2-3 week turnaround. I learned my lesson there and will always read “about me” pages before I buy!

It ended up being about 6 1/2 weeks before it arrived, but it was totally worth the wait, honestly! I contacted Steph to check in a few times and she was absolutely wonderful. I’m always leery of “complaining” because I never know how the seller will respond, or if they will think I’m going to be a cranky customer. She was apologetic, understanding, and acknowledged that it had been a long wait! She asked that I tell her if there was something she could do to make this a positive experience. Considering that she birthed a 10 lb, 5 oz baby and still managed to make my diaper, and respond to my emails the same day I sent them, I’m giving her a pass. 😉

If you purchase a diaper from The Eli Monster, you can expect better quality than you’d get from the “big name” mass produced diapers. I don’t think I found a single stitch out of place. I’ve only seen one other “work at home Mom” diaper with the impeccable quality of The Eli Monster. Very, very hard to believe that she made this!

I chose a size medium, which is estimated to fit 10-22 pounds. I love that the size is on the label, and the dual sided brand label is very neat! As you see, she sells on etsy as well. When I took it out of the package my first thought was “oh no! This will never fit, it’s so tiny!”

As it turns out, it’s almost exactly the same size as a Bumgenius 3.0 on the medium setting.

I think it looks smaller because it is so trim. The microcloth internal soaker is extremely thin, and is sewn just through the middle of the diaper. I have to say that I prefer the elastic style of the bumgenius (I guess “cased” elastic is the right term?) Hard to explain, but it seems to be more secure and doesn’t dig in.

The inner of the diaper is soft suedecloth to keep baby’s bottom dry. There is a hidden layer of PUL, so no cover is needed.

The outer looks like a woven cotton in the pictures, but it’s actually a very soft, nylon feeling material.

This diaper is called the “SpeedyPants” and has racing stripes and an applique (hand silkscreened) patch. My husband loved the diaper, he said it looked like a race car.

I love this diaper!! It is totally my style; those who know me know I’m not a huge fan of most “baby stuff.” I’ve found solid, stripes and dot patterns that I like OK, but I love, love, love the diapers The Eli Monster makes. At under $20 for an AIO diaper, I think it’s a pretty good deal. I love how trim it is, but it is a sized diaper, so it won’t fit forever. Oops, almost forgot, I was so hung up on how awesome it looks, it performs well too!

The problem is now I want one of her camera wrist straps, newborn diapers (and a newborn to go with it!) and this diaper (buy one of those and she will send another to miracle diapers.) I’ll also take one of these and these and these longies. Oh heck, I’ll take one of everything. Hee hee! She has even made prefolds cool.

Boo Boo Bag

I finally won a “FFS” drawing on Hyenacart! I’ve entered hundreds of them, and that’s no exaggeration! “FFS” means that the seller is offering the item up for free, the “winner” of the drawing just has to pay shipping. Basically, anything I have any interest in, where the shipping is reasonable (to me) I enter.

What I won was a “Boo Boo Bag” from the congo “Bliss,” seller Homemade Love. The shipping was $1.50 and I figured that was fair. I’d pay that much for a cold pack at the store. The winner was able to choose boy or girl fabric, round or square. I didn’t really care since I have one of each (boy/girl, not circles/squares hee hee.)

The print is really cute and it smells like fruit loops or something. It didn’t come with any care or use instructions, so I’m afraid to wash it. The fabric looks really thin in places and I don’t want to end up with a hole in it.

I was kind of disappointed that the finishing was so sloppy. I’m spoiled by my turned and topstitched WAHM made diapers! But, I guess you get what you pay for, so it’s all good! 🙂

Inspired by Finn sells Baltic amber and hazelwood jewelry, including the beautiful teething necklace I was given to review.

The first time I heard “amber teething necklace” I thought people must be nuts. Then, I learned about the benefits of Baltic amber. I figured out that no, people weren’t allowing their children to chew on jewelry. When Baltic amber is worn on the skin, the skin’s warmth releases trace amounts of healing oils from the amber. These oils contain succinic acid and are absorbed into the skin.

I asked Inspired by Finn to choose the shape, color and length of my son’s teething necklace for me.

It came in a cute gift box.

All jewelry is lead-free and phthalates-free and it meets all US legislative testing (CPSIA) requirements for children’s jewelry.

Each bead is individually knotted and while it isn’t “stretchy,” it does have a tiny bit of “give” to it. It will break if pulled, which is good for safety’s sake. Even so, I, personally, did not put the necklace on my son for naps etc.

The necklace has an easy to use, secure closure.

After I took these photos, I tucked the necklace under his shirt, so it was in contact with his skin.

The necklace is absolutely beautiful, and I want one for myself, if only because it is so pretty!

I couldn’t resist taking this photo, he gave me the biggest grin when he saw the camera!

My husband says he looks like a hippie, and the cashier at Old Navy thought he was a girl. My mom said it was because of the necklace, but several weeks ago, a Dad at the park told me he was “too pretty to be a boy” because of his big brown eyes and long lashes, LOL. I think he looks adorable!

I can’t really say whether it has eased his teething pain. However, since he started teething, he has never really napped.

After wearing the necklace, he napped for an hour and a half!! So yeah, I love my Inspired by Finn teething necklace!
