Every Monday, I publish a reader submitted question. Don’t miss any posts! Subscribe to our new RSS Feed or subscribe via email.

Questions don’t have to be cloth diaper related, just email maria at change-diapers.com with “Mailbox Mondays” in the subject, or fill out my contact form for readers, which you will always be able to find on my Contact Page.

Ashley wants to know:

Do you have tips/advice for baby led weaning? Were there any websites or books that were particularly helpful?

Baby led weaning seems to be a popular movement, though moms have been informally practicing it forever! WholesomeBabyFood.com has great info, as does BabyLedWeaning.com.

Check out Baby-led Weaning: Helping Your Baby To Love Good Food (affiliate link) as well.

Have you used baby led weaning? What resources did you find most helpful?

It’s so easy to over think this one. The only thing you really need to know is that as soon as you’re moving onto slightly harder foods (think cooked carrots vs bananas) you should cut the food into longer, narrower rectangles instead of squares. That way the piece is still big enough for the baby to grasp but since it’s narrower it’s easier to smoosh (even without teeth).

One unexpected benefit of BLW was how quickly my daughter mastered utensils. The hand to mouth coordination had already developed from self feeding so she only had to learn how to scoop or spear the food.
