Handmade, Natural Skincare for the Family – Moody Sisters (+ Giveaway)

I received product samples at no cost for review purposes. I was not otherwise compensated for this post, and all opinions are my own. I’m always on the prowl for new, natural skincare products. When I poked around sisters Jess & Whitney’s site for Moody Sisters Skincare, they had me hooked.

Their products include everything from face wash, eye cream and eye makeup remover to blemish cream, body wash and sugar scrubs. None of their products contain any chemicals, artifical fragrances (they smell great thanks to the natural ingredients), dyes, sulfates, or parabens. All products are made by hand.

Jess & Whitney sent me a few products to try, and I’m already eyeing other products I want to buy.

The whipped body lotion sampler pack lets you try two 2 oz scents, and they come in a cute gift bag with shredded paper and a Velcro closure. I do notice the little things, and appreciated that the bottles had a flip cap. Many times smaller lotion bottles don’t have a flip cap, but I find them much easier to use.

Ingredients: Distilled Water, Organic Aloe Juice, Sunflower Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Mango Butter, Beeswax, Cetearyl Olivate (and) Sorbitan Olivate, Gluconolactone (and) Sodium Benzoate, Stearic Acid, Rosemary Seed Extract, Vitamin E & essential oils (varies by fragrance.) The chai & orange both smell ah-maz-ing; the chai smells like vanilla icing to me and the orange initially smelled like an orange Tootsie pop, then an orange creamsicle. Scents stick around but they aren’t stinky or overwhelming. I can’t stand anything that feels remotely greasy, but this soaked right in and the hand I put it on when testing was satiny vs. the sandpaper-y hand I didn’t apply it to! The lotion has joined the very exclusive club of those I’ll use on my hands. I also like to run my hands through the ends of my hair before the lotion has fully absorbed to smooth flyaways and make my hair silky. At $15.00 this sampler would make a great holiday gift.

Moody Sisters lip balm comes in 7 yummy scents and retails for $4.95. This was the first product that led me around their site reading all their product descriptions. I love companies that inject humor into their sites.

Your lips get a lot of use. Maybe you use yours to kiss your little angels good night or maybe you grudgingly use them to kiss your boss’ butt – we don’t judge. However you tend keep your lips busy, you’ll want to protect and indulge them with our silky natural handmade lip balms loaded with skin loving shea butter and beeswax scented only with pure yummy essential oil blends. Our lip balms are 100% natural and safe for all ages (and boss bums too!).

I’ve never used a dry shampoo but I always hear people singing their praises. Since a daily shower isn’t guaranteed with 3 kids, I was excited to try the Moody Sisters version!

The jar comes with a puff, and there’s a circle to keep the puff from sitting directly in the powder.

Ingredients: Organic Arrowroot Powder, Cornstarch, Organic Colloidial Oatmeal, Baking Soda, Lemon Peel Powder, Organic Witch Hazel Powder, Essential Oils: Lemon, Sweet Orange, Grapefruit, Bergamot, Lemongrass.

The powder has a light citrus scent, and you use it like any other dry shampoo (dab a little on, rub in to absorb oil, then brush out.) A 2 oz container retails for $12.

The first time I used it, I tried right before my shower so if I screwed up, I wouldn’t be walking around looking like someone dropped a bag of flour on my head. It took a little practice to use the right amount, but a little goes a long way, and it really works. I found the below video very helpful in figuring out how much to use and where to apply it.
