A Year of Fluff Giveaway

Abby’s Lane $20 Gift Certificate Giveaway (CLOSED 11/2)

abbys lane

Abby’s Lane is one of my favorite cloth diaper retailers, so it makes me warm & fuzzy that they are one of my “A Year of Fluff” sponsors!

So, why are they one of my favorites?  They have a wide selection of cloth diapers, accessories, and even baby carriers and pediped baby shoes.  They offer free shipping always, on every U.S. order.  Before I found Abby’s Lane, I would try to keep a list of what I wanted to order, and wait until I had $50 or whatever I needed to get free shipping.  Then half the time, something I wanted was out of stock, so I was having to wait to order (only to have another item out of stock) or be faced with paying shipping, or ordering something I didn’t really want, to get up to the free shipping minimum.

Speaking of stock, I’ve never run into an item I wanted being out of stock at Abby’s Lane.  I’m sure it happens, but it’s never happened to me.  They update their Facebook page when they restock items (which is pretty quickly in my opnion!) and they look to their customers for what they should add to their wide selection.

Abby’s lane also offers “Abby’s Lane Dollars” which rewards you for money you spend.  They have a gift registry and an easily accessible page of sale items.  If you sign up for their newsletter or the Abby’s Lane Yahoo Group, you get a 5% discount on every order (excluding Ergo.)  Be sure to also check out the Abby’s Lane Blog for news, tips, reviews and some blog chat parties.  I won my Kissaluvs Fitted from their blog chat!

Abby’s Lane is also somewhat “local” to me, since they are in Virginia and I’m in Maryland.  I am anxiously awaiting a Brick & Mortar store so I can finally see all that fluff in person, and hopefully meet the great Mama behind the company!

Giveaway: Abby’s Lane is offering a $20 gift certificate to one of my readers!!

Here’s how to enter: All entries go in the form.  I love comments, but comments won’t be counted as entries.  Mandatory entries include your name, email address and your favorite item that Abby’s Lane sells.  You may receive a bonus entry for “liking” Abby’s Lane on Facebook and/or following Abby’s Lane on Twitter.  This post will be updated regularly with the # of entries received.

A Year of Fluff All In One Diapers Cloth Diapers Natural Fiber Diapers One Size Diapers Review Snap Closure

Bumgenius Elemental (A.K.A. Organic AIO) Review

>

Bumgenius Elemental Diaper

I purchased this Bumgenius Elemental, Organic One-Size All-in-One with the $20 Abby’s Lane gift certificate I won from Show Your Amor the day after my Birthday.  Happy Birthday me!

Bumgenius Organic AIO Diaper

The elementals come with snap closures only, and the price is a little steep at $24.95 each.  They are very similar to the Flip or Bumgenius 4.0 in size and shape, but it is certified organic cotton on the inside, and it’s an all-in-one style.  Since it’s organic cotton, it does need to be “prepped” by washing 5 or more times, to gain maximum absorbency.  I think I may have washed it 3 times before using it the first time, knowing that it would gain absorbency with further washes.

Bumgenius AIO Diaper Soaker Bumgenius Organic AIO Soaker

Bumgenius AIO Cloth Diaper

The soaker is sewn in a loop style to dry a bit faster, and wash a bit more thoroughly, but I found it still took quite a while to dry.  While the soaker is all organic cotton, there will still be PUL touching the baby’s skin at the front and back (which will serve as a stopper to prevent leaking and wicking.)

Bumgenius AIO vs 4.0 Bumgenius Elemental leg elastic vs Pocket Diaper Elastic

The size is very similar to the Bumgenius 4.0, but I prefer the leg elastic style of the 4.0.  The elemental is one-size via the same snap down rise the Bumgenius 3.0 & 4.0 Pocket diapers have.

Measurements are of course a wee bit subjective, since you can eke out a little more or less depending on just how you hold it.

Here is the small setting, folded and stretched:

Medium folded and stretched:

Large folded and stretched:

Here it is on my son, who is in the medium setting, at about 18.5 pounds and 30″:

It did fit well, and did not leak (even before it was fully prepped) but I did have to roll the leg elastic in a bit.  My personal preference (which you know if you’ve been reading for a while!) is a pocket diaper with a stay dry inner and Velcro closure.  However, if you are looking for an easy to use all-in-one with an organic soaker, this may be your ticket!

All In One Diapers Coupon Retailers Review Sized Diapers

Bumgenius AIO

>

I received this BumGenius All-in-one diaper free with my BumGenius coupon and flip purchase from Abby’s Lane.
The size medium I chose fits from 15-22 pounds.  My little guy is about 16.5 lbs as of the day I took this photo.
It fits him wonderfully with plenty of room to grow.
These are a lot like the BG 3.0 O/S diapers.  They have a stay dry inner.
A stuffable pocket to add additional inserts.
They have the same waterproof outer with front PUL “stopper,” the “poop scoop,” aplix closures, rear elastic…all the same great features except it has a sewn in microfiber soaker.
This is a photo of the diaper turned inside out, which helps it dry a bit faster.
These diapers are sized, with the XS fitting from 6-12 pounds (no stuffable pocket on this one), S fitting 8-16 lbs, M fitting 15-22 lbs and L 22-30 lbs.  This makes them even trimmer than the one sized diapers, and they are just as leak proof.
They are priced at $15.95 each, which is $2.00 less than a Bumgenius 3.0 one-size pocket diaper.  If money were no object, I would gladly exclusively use these.  Since money IS an object for us, (a very scarce one at that) I would prefer the one size diapers.
Aside from the cost issue, they would experience the same velcro wear over time (the organic AIOs come with snaps but not these, with the stay-dry inner).  You’d also be unable to separately treat the microfiber insert if it needed some extra stink treatment, which would limit your options (bleach and other treatments can damage PUL).  One person told me she actually removed the soaker from the diaper, which would “save” it, but then it would be a pocket diaper!
The XS/newborn size diapers are priced at $3.00 less.  I would definitely get a few of these to diaper a newborn! But for now, I’ll stick with my 3.0’s, though I’m so glad I got to try this!
Edit August 2010: I still like this diaper; it is very trim and absorbent.  However, it is getting a little stinky.  If I turn it inside out to dry and sniff the microfiber, it doesn’t smell clean.  I’ve had to re-wash it turned inside out several times.
