Borrowed Planet – Durable, Affordable AI2 Cloth Diapers

Borrowed Planet offers affordable cloth diapers and accessories that don’t scrimp on features. The Canadian brand manufactures products in China in a third-party inspected plant, and additional testing is done in Canada to ensure products meet Canadian safety standards. The company sent us an AI2, insert and doubler to review.

The diaper’s pattern was created based on hand drawn designs and the AI2 has some great features.

Borrowed Planet estimates the diapers will fit children from 8-35 pounds with 3 rise settings, hip snaps and a snap overlap.

The AI2 has two complete layers of PUL and double gussets (1 layer of PUL on the gusset) as well as both front and rear PUL flaps.

There are many insert options to choose from including the viscose from bamboo snap in insert (2 layers of absorbency plus a layer of microfleece) and hemp doubler (2 layers of 55% hemp/45%cotton) I received.

You can also choose from bamboo viscose trifolds, 3 layer bamboo viscose inserts, stackable 4 layer hemp blend inserts and 3-layer snap in hemp blend inserts.

As expected, the hemp doubler shrunk more than the bamboo viscose, which is topped with stay dry material. Here they are before prep:

My son is quite slender at 3 years/3 months old and about 28/29 pounds. I tried the medium setting:

I was surprised at how well the insert and doubler absorbed for us and the cover is roomy enough to easily use prefolds or flats. The cover seemed very thick and substantial.

Katie’s little guy is about the same weight as my 3 year old (28 lbs at 10 months). She used the diaper on the largest rise setting, which is what she uses for the majority of her diapers.

Katie really enjoyed the double gussets, thick PUL, the snap in insert and also the flaps that make it easy to tuck another insert of prefold in. She got a great fit and was able to use it at night with the addition of a prefold.
