Monster Fluff Embroidered Fleece Soaker/Diaper Cover Review and Giveaway Open to the U.S. and Canada (CLOSED 11/6)

>

monster fluff soaker

Long ago and far away, I asked (on Facebook) what you guys would like to see me review, and Monster Fluff was mentioned!  I had found Monster Fluff myself on Hyenacart quite a while ago when searching for monster stuff, but I hadn’t pulled the trigger on a purchase yet! So, I was excited to get to do this review!

my son and the cover

I love monsters but honest to goodness, it’s not just me!  My son grabbed it from me when I opened it, just like he did with my (err…his) ooga diaper!

I received the Archie monster, embroidered on a size medium soaker.  The embroidered soakers retail for $22, and while the size chart doesn’t give weight estimates, the medium fit my 18.5 lb guy just fine.

inside diaper cover

The soakers are made with 100% polyester anti-pill fleece and each monster averages 14,000 stitches.  The soakers have an additional layer sewn into the wet zone, which also covers the embroidery backing.

Monster Fluff products are made by mom & daughter team Debbie and Amber.  Don’t let the name fool you, they don’t just have monsters.  They have tons of embroidery options available on soakers, shorties, longies and matching sets.

neat and even seamsadditional layer in wet zone

The craftsmanship of the soaker is really amazing.  I turned it inside out and inspected it, and the fleece is cut neatly and sewn impeccably.

close up of seams

The embroidery is clearly done by an embroidery machine, rather than by hand (Can you imagine?  Yikes.  Hand cramp!)  Even so, it takes skill!

close up of embroidery very close up shot of embroidery

The monster was centered and straight on the soaker, and there were no loose threads!

trim little beetle fitted

First, I tried the soaker on over the trimmest fitted I have, the Little Beetle Little to Big Diaper.

My son is about 18.5 lbs here and the diaper is on the largest setting.

fleece cover over little beetle diaper back monster fluff over little beetle standing rear

I didn’t have trouble getting the soaker over the diaper, and it fit very well.  The first time I changed his diaper when I was using the soaker, the fitted was wet on the outside, but the soaker seemed clean.  Gross maybe, but I sniffed it and used it again!  If I were exclusively using fitteds, I would perhaps use 2 soakers per day and air them out between uses, of course washing them if they got smelly or soiled.  Otherwise, I’d just wash them at the end of the day!

fleece cover over trim diaper standing front

Next, I decided to try the soaker over one of my fluffiest, most absorbent fitteds, my Heartland Dreams Fitted.

fluffy heartland dreams fitted

It wasn’t difficult to get the soaker over the diaper, but I did have to work it a little, it didn’t just slide right on.  Fleece isn’t as stretchy as wool, but it fit really well over both a very trim fitted, and a fluffy one!

The suggested care for Monster Fluff fleece is:  Turn inside out, machine wash warm, delicate cycle. Tumble dry low.  They suggest washing their fleece items with your regular laundry.  Oops.  I saw this after I washed, used and washed it again!  I didn’t turn it inside out and I washed it on the regular cycle with my diapers, so cold, then hot.  I hung it to dry with my shells/covers.  I’ll be more careful in the future!

I think the Monster Fluff soaker is awesome.  Not only is it a well made, very functional soaker, but it’s adorable too!  I’d love to have a custom with longies and a matching shirt!

Giveaway:  Monster Fluff is offering one reader a soaker in his/her choice of size, gender and monster!

Knickernappies 2G Sized Pocket Diaper Review & Giveaway (CLOSED 11/4)

>

knickernappies 2g pocket diaper

Ever since I fell in love with the Knickernappies superdo and loopydo inserts, I’ve wanted to try one of their diapers.  So, I had been entering all of the blog giveaways I saw for their diapers.  Last month, I found out I won the giveaway sponsored by Knickernappies on The Cloth Diaper Report.  I was just as excited as you might have guessed, especially since it was the first diaper I’d won!

my win!

The Knickernappies 2G pocket diapers do not normally come with inserts, and the giveaway clearly stated the win would not have an insert.  Knickernappies sent one anyway, which was awesome!

knickernappies front knickernappies back

I couldn’t decide on color, so I let my husband choose.  My daughter wanted violet, but while I’d put a deep eggplant on my son, I wasn’t so sure about that color.  Her second choice was raspberry (pink)!  He (obviously, since you’re looking at the pics!) chose melon.  The color was a little brighter than I expected it to be.  I’m not sure why since looking at the pics online now, it seems fairly accurate.

side snapping snap closures

Both the 2G diapers and the Knickernappies one size diapers are side snapping.  I prefer front closures, only because it’s what I’m used to.  I think I have at least 3, if not 4 side snapping diapers now.  So, they’re not as confusing now that I have more practice!

pocket opening

The “2G” pocket diapers are sized.  I chose the medium, which is estimated to fit 15-28 pounds.  The small fits about 5-15 pounds, and the large fits about 25-35 pounds.  The complete Knickernappies 2G size chart also includes waist, thigh and rise estimates.

knickernappies medium vs bumgenius elemental med

It seems similar to the medium settings of other one-size diapers (that’s a Bumgenius “elemental” organic AIO.)

Here it is measured folded and stretched:

foldedstretched

The medium fit my 18.5 lb son great, and he definitely has lots of room!

knickernappies medium diaper on 18.5 lb baby back of knickernappies 2g pocket diaper

We didn’t have any leak issues with the microfiber insert, I’m sure it would be an even better diaper with a loopydo insert!  I didn’t try it with mine since I tried to be cheap and buy large inserts.  They get a little bulky when you try to fold them down, so I just use them at night now!  The diaper without insert retails for about $15.95.  The basic microfiber insert is $3.95, but you can save by buying the diaper with an optional loopydo or superdo insert.

side of knickernappies diaper

Amazingly, the second diaper giveaway I won was also last month, for another Knickernappies 2G pocket diaper!  Initially, I thought about asking for a new winner to be drawn, since I had just won one.  The first one I won (am I saying one/won enough?) was sponsored by Knickernappies, but the second was sponsored by Earth Angels Diaper Co. on their Diaper Discussions blog.

While I haven’t personally purchased from Earth Angels Diaper Co., they have good prices, a wide selection, and even an affiliate program.  Don’t worry, no links in this post are affiliate links!  They have risk-free “try me” cloth diaper kits and even a layaway program!  My experience with the owner was wonderful.

You can find Earth Angels Diaper Co. on Facebook, tweeting as @clothdiapergeek and on The Diaper Discussions Blog.

Giveaway: As my second giveaway win, I received the size medium, melon color Knickernappies 2G pocket diaper and microfiber insert pictured above, and it is sitting, new and unused, awaiting a new owner.  I have been assured that re-gifting (re-giveaway-ing?) a blog win isn’t as incredibly tacky as I’m afraid it may seem, so…at the end of this giveaway, one of you will have a diaper just like the one I reviewed (only new of course!)  While this giveaway isn’t technically sponsored by Earth Angels Diaper Co., I did get their OK to do this!

Here’s how to enter: All entries go in the form below.  I do love me some comments, but comments don’t count as entries.  Mandatory entries include name, email address, and your favorite item from Earth Angels Diaper Co.  You may select the bonus entry if you follow this blog via GFC, RSS or email.  As usual, I will update this post regularly with the # of entries received.

I will accept entries until Thursday, November 4th 2010 at 9 P.M. Eastern.  I will select a winner using random.org’s true random number generator and notify him/her by email.  Winner has 48 hours to respond before the prize is forfeited and a new winner is chosen.  View my giveaway rules page for complete details.  This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only.

Blueberry Mini Pocket Diaper Review

>

blueberry mini pocket diaper

Blueberry Diapers and Swaddlebees sometimes have clearance sales where they clear out seconds, overstocks and discontinued items.  I’ve perused before, but have either found the prices to be not so great, or like the last few times, the prices with shipping added are just too high.

blueberry mini blueberry mini rear

About a month ago, I was able to snag a Mini Deluxe “irregular” diaper for $10, plus $3.90 shipping.  The irregular/second didn’t include an insert, but I have plenty of newborn inserts/doublers from my one-size diapers.  The regular price is $17.95, and I figured a 45% discount was worth it!

blueberry mini small

For the record, no, I don’t have a newborn, nor am I pregnant.  I just couldn’t resist this eeny teeny diaper!  I chose the lemon-lime color, which I had been eying for about a year.  It didn’t look exactly like I’d expected from photos, but it’s still cute!

blueberry mini seconds

The tag is marked, indicating it is irregular.  I think some of the stitching was a little bit uneven, but if I hadn’t known it was a second, I wouldn’t have noticed.

snap down rise

The Blueberry Mini is estimated to fit babies up to 15 pounds, and has a snap down rise (just like the one-size blueberry diapers) giving you three size options, not just one like some newborn diapers.

insert in pocket

Pocket diapers are my personal preference, but I wondered if I would have to use salad tongs to stuff such a tiny diaper!  Granted, I have small hands, but I had no trouble!

snap closure

It has snap closures.  I prefer aplix/Velcro (especially for newborn/middle of the night changes), but (in my opinion!) Blueberry Velcro is the worst I’ve encountered, so snaps from them is fine with me!  You can also see the irregular stitching at the top of the diaper in the photo above.

blueberry mini small vs one size smallbluberry mini large vs one size small side view

Above is the Blueberry Mini on the small and also large settings, compared to the Blueberry one-Size on the small setting.  The large setting seems to have a similar rise compared to the one-size small setting, but it is a bit narrower, to fit a small baby better overall.

Here’s the Blueberry Mini on the small setting, measured folded and stretched:

Finally, the large setting of the Blueberry Mini, both folded and stretched:

Since I don’t have a newborn, I used my usual newborn diaper model!

my model

I think the small setting is very similar to a preemie size disposable. It gets very small!

blueberry mini small vs preemie disposable diaper

The medium seems similar to a newborn disposable, and the large seems similar to a size 1.

Here I’ve compared the fit of a preemie disposable, to the fit of the Blueberry Mini on the small setting:

Here’s my model in a newborn disposable compared to the Blueberry Mini on the medium setting.  My model was very thankful I only took the disposable pictures once, and re-used them on my other newborn diaper post.  He thinks cloth is much more comfy!

Lastly a size 1 disposable compared to the fit of the Blueberry Mini on the large setting:

Naturally, I can’t put the diaper “to the test” since I don’t have a newborn.  It’s called a “Blueberry Mini” and it appears to be just that; a miniature version of their one-size diaper, which I think is wonderful.  Both the microfiber/hemp combo inserts and the bamboo inserts are incredibly absorbent, and the fit of the one-size diapers is great.  Both the Blueberry Bamboo one-size diaper and the Blueberry Minky one-size diaper I have are ones I grab for naps or car rides, despite the awful Velcro.

Now, if only I had a newborn to put in this cute diaper!
Update after using on a newborn.

A Year of Fluff All In One Diapers Cloth Diapers Giveaway Made in the USA Review Sized Diapers Velcro/Aplix Closure WAHM made

Designs by Cace AIO Diaper Review & Giveaway (CLOSED 10/30)

>

Designs By Cace AIO Diaper

Designs by Cace is another WAHM brand, making sized fitteds, all-in-ones (AIOs) and covers, as well as nursing covers and slings.

Rear of Diaper front of diaper

I received a size medium AIO, which is estimated to fit 10-22 pounds.  Small fits about 5-10 pounds, and large about 20-35 pounds.

diaper innerlaundry tabs

front velcro back

The diaper has a soft minky inner, a 3 layer sewn in soaker (very trim, but probably best just for daytime) and velcro closures with laundry tabs.  I really like the black velcro closures, it’s a nice contrast and it’s different than other diapers.  I did notice a few areas where the stitching could have been a little tighter/neater, but it didn’t affect the function of the diaper at all.

The diaper is a smidge smaller than some other mediums I have; here it is compared to a one-size diaper on the medium setting:

Med designs by cace vs medium one size diaper

Here it is measured folded and stretched:

It fit my 18.5 pound guy just fine with plenty of room to grow.

We didn’t have any leak or fit issues, and though it looks like it was digging into his belly, it’s just the way he was sitting.

A solid color medium AIO like I received, is just $10!  Wow!  Medium prints are $10-12.   A large AIO is $12, with prints ranging from $12-$15.  Smalls are a little less at $9 each.  Fleece covers are just $5-8!  These are very Daddy friendly and affordable enough to buy several and support a WAHM.

A Year of Fluff All In Two Diapers Cloth Diapers Giveaway Made in the USA One Size Diapers Review Snap Closure WAHM made

PLUMP Diapers AI2 Review & Giveaway (CLOSED 10/28)

>

Plump O/S AI2

PLUMP Diapers are made by WAHM Kassi.  Now that I’ve gotten my hands on a PLUMP, you’re going to have to listen to me gush about another amazing WAHM.

plump mailplump packaging

we love it already

My son has never shown interest in a diaper before.  He snatched this from me as soon as I got it out of the package!

ooga booga snaps ooga booga cotton velour

I know Ooga Booga fabric seems to be “love it” or “hate it.  I love the monsters, but I’ve never cared for any of the fabrics.  When they were supposed to be printing a turquoise on brown ooga fabric, I was poised to buy some from a fabric co-op so I could have a custom diaper made.  Unfortunately, they didn’t end up printing the brown.  When Kassi agreed to allow me to review for her, I was just happy to get to try a PLUMP.  I was really excited when she said she wanted to make me a custom!  So, I chose the Turquoise ooga Cotton Velour (CV) with a minky inner.  I asked for gender neutral snaps and I was so surprised to see adorable OOGA snaps!!

craftsmanship

The craftsmanship is just incredible.

snapswing snaps

PLUMPs do have 10 jillion snaps (OK so 4 on each wing) which makes me feel a little short of breath (LOL).  In the end, I cheated and only closed the outer and inner most snaps on each wing and it worked just fine.  The good thing about having so many snaps, is that it gives you so many options; you’ll never find yourself needing a snap where there isn’t one.  Kassi will include hip snap covers upon request (50 cents per pair), so soft fabric (rather than a snap) will touch your baby’s skin once the outer most snaps (hip snaps) are no longer needed.

snap down rise

This PLUMP all-in two (AI2) is one-size via a “fold down” rise.  What makes it unique is that it actually snaps into place.  So, you don’t have to try to hold it down on a wiggly baby while simultaneously trying to snap the wings.

Here it is on the small setting:

small settingsmall setting front

Here is the small setting, measured folded and stretched:

Large folded and stretched:

My diaper has a minky inner, and petal style soakers that snap together.  The layers are (deep breath!): Minky/Organic Bamboo Fleece (OBF)/ZORB/OBF and OBF/ZORB/OBF/Cotton Velour (CV).  Minky touches baby’s skin, with 8 layers of absorbency in the soakers!

bubble minky inner

It also has this spiffy laundry snap, which allows you to hang the diaper with no clothes pins!

If you’re new around these-here parts, you don’t already know that my son is a little peanut.  He’s 17 months old (or he will be on Saturday) and he’s about 18.5 pounds and 30 inches.  Here he is wearing the large (unfolded rise) setting:

large on baby-rear large on baby side

side of large on seated babylarge on baby front seated

large on baby front

I was able to put the diaper on him, on the small setting, while he was wiggling around on my lap, upside down.  So much for my fear of all the snaps, huh?  I win, snaps, I win!

putting the small setting on

One thing that I love about this diaper is that I don’t have to fold the soakers!  Even on the small setting, just pull them up over baby, close the diaper, and you’re done.  They don’t hang out of the diaper!  When I was looking over the diaper when I first got it, the soakers seemed thick, and I wondered how it would work.  It wasn’t until I put it on him that I realized they are sized such that they don’t need to be folded.  So, you get all the absorbency without all the folding, and the diaper is no more “plump” (hee hee) than others!

small setting 18.5 lb baby small setting rear

small setting side small setting front

We have used this diaper several times and we’ve never had a leak, including fruit/fruit juice induced (and gag-inducing) messes.  The one-size diapers are estimated to fit 10-35 pounds.

small frontsmall back

All-in-twos retail for about $18-$21; fitteds about $16-$19.  You can find PLUMP Diapers on Hyenacart, as well as the Cuties With Cloth Booties Congo and the Bliss Congo.  Kassi also makes incredible, one-of-a-kind diapers like this Sun/moon Minky AI2 and this Oh Christmas Tree Diaper (which kind of makes me want M&Ms).  She also makes embellished diapers, like this Bat AI2, this blue snowflake diaper and this red snowflake diaper.

Giveaway: PLUMP Diapers is offering some lucky stiff a custom PLUMP. You can choose an AI2, Fitted or Pocket tester in your choice of fabric.  (Does not include pieced or one of a kind diapers, hard to find or premium fabric.)  Please notice PLUMP’s note: “Ours is a non-smoking home.  We do have pets.  They don’t smoke either.”

Here’s how to enter: All entries go in the form.  Feel free to express your fluff envy in the comments, but comments don’t count as entries.  Mandatory entries include name, email address and your favorite PLUMP item (available or sold) from the PLUMP store, the Cuties With Cloth Booties Congo or the Bliss Congo.  You may take advantage of the bonus entry for “liking” PLUMP on Facebook.  I highly recommend it, especially since she has a 10% discount code just for Facebook fans right now, and offers discounts to her fans from time to time!

I will accept entries until Thursday, October 28th 2010 at 9 P.M. Eastern.  I will select a winner using random.org’s true random number generator and notify him/her by email.  Winner has 48 hours to respond before the prize is forfeited and a new winner is chosen.  View my giveaway rules page for complete details.  This giveaway is open to U.S. residents only.
