The Eli Monster AIO Review & Giveaway (CLOSED 10/27)

>

eli monster aio

I bought my first diaper from The Eli Monster about 6 months ago; a size medium creme speedypants AIO.  When it started to seem kind of small on him, I got a little panicky, because I love it so much!!

eli monsterdiapereli monster large diaper

I had “spotted” it on The Eli Monster Hyenacart store seemingly forever, and I was really surprised when it was still in stock when I had the money to buy finally.  Learn from my fail here…”in stock” doesn’t mean ready to ship.  It simply means she has the materials to make the item; all items are made to order!  Her about me page is kept updated with current turnaround times.  Since I have impeccable timing (ha!) I placed my order just as her daughter arrived.  Despite just having had a baby, Steph gave me excellent service and an amazing diaper.  She doesn’t send out a diaper that she doesn’t think is her best work!

velcro closures

What I love about The Eli Monster is that they are totally unlike any other diaper I have ever seen.  They have hand sewn appliqués and hand applied screenprinting.

screenprinted diaper hand screenprinted diaper

The screenprinting isn’t “perfect,” but it’s not supposed to be.  It’s an incredible, hand made diaper, and no two will be exactly alike, unlike if a commercial company tried to copy this with a factory made diaper!

But anyhoo, the medium diaper I bought before is the speedypants, which was $19.50.  This time, I bought the “special edition miracle diaper” for $25.50.  For each one she sells, she donates a diaper to The Cloth Diaper Foundation (formerly Miracle Diapers.)  The other items I am just dying to have are: the Punk Rock AIO, Anchor’s Aweigh AIO, Tattooed Baby Longies, and the Nautical Star Tattoo diaper.  I also need one of her camera wrist straps and a Large Speedypants!  She makes nursing pads, covers and embellished prefolds too.

It sounds ridiculous but OMG.  For realz, yo.  I want one of everything.  I love, love, love Eli Monster stuff.  Totally my style and so different than everything else.

eli monster large vs bumgenius mediumeli monster large vs bumgenius medium front

In my opinion, you may want to consider sizing up in The Eli Monster.  Above is the large Eli Monster, compared to a medium Bumgenius.  My son still has lots of room in the medium Bumgenius, but has pretty much outgrown the medium Eli Monster.  The Eli Monster’s Size Chart gives weight estimates of 10-22 pounds for the medium, but I would probably suggest going with her more general guidelines of medium=baby and large=toddler.  My guy is only 18.5 pounds now, and the medium seemed smallish when we got it when he was a year old.  Since my guy isn’t even on the CDC’s growth charts, a larger baby would probably grow out of it even sooner.

Yappity yappity, here it is measured folded and stretched:

Here is The Eli Monster large compared to the medium:

The most noticeable difference to me between the medium and large, was the soaker thickness.  I’ve tried to photograph it, but it’s tough to show.  I wasn’t sure if anyone would be interested in me pinching diapers with calipers.    😉

med vs large soaker thickness foldedmed vs large soaker thickness

After using the large, it is definitely a better fit for my son.  It makes sense to me.  The smaller diapers have trimmer soakers, since you’re likely to change more often and/or have lighter wetters.  The older babies tend to wet more at once, so you need more absorbency even if you change diapers as soon as they’re wet!

The first photo is him in the medium, taken the same day as the other photos.

I love Eli Monster diapers, and so does my husband.  They are one I reach for if I know that my son’s diaper might be hanging out of his pants.  They are such cool and unique diapers, I’m always hoping someone will notice it, and I’ll be able to bring them over to the dark side get them interested in cloth!

Wee Bonnie Botts AIO Review, Giveaway & Discount! (CLOSED 10/26)

>

wee bonnie botts aio

Wee Bonnie Botts are work-at-home-mom (WAHM) made diapers made by Sarah.  Like so many other WAHMs, Sarah started out by making diapers for her own child, and it took off from there.

wee bonnie botts packaging

Sarah and I got in contact as I was looking for sponsors for my “Year of Fluff” event this month, and she sent me a side-snapping AIO to review.

wee bonnie botts diaper wee bonnie botts rear

I really like to keep my reviews fairly matter of fact, but it so happens that the diapers I’m reviewing this week come from some of the most talented WAHMs I know.  So, you might hear a little bit more gushing than usual this week.

seam craftsmanship

I of course love the pirate print; I have a fitted in this print also.  Wee Bonnie Botts is one of a growing list of WAHMs that simply amaze me.  The craftsmanship is absolutely impeccable; not a stitch out of place.  The diaper is seamed in the middle so the front and back are both right side up!

snaps soaker thickness

The All-in-One I received is a size medium, which is estimated to fit 18-33 pounds.  The knit outer is laminated PUL, not hidden.  So there are no issues with wicking.  It has an organic bamboo fleece hidden layer, organic bamboo fleece and microfiber soakers, and a stay dry, suedecloth inner.

Wee Bonnie Botts makes diapers with two patterns.  Here is approximate sizing for each:

Je M’appelle Bebe
Preemie 2-7 lbs
Newborn 5-12 lbs
Small 10-20 lbs
Medium 18-33 lbs
Large 30-40 lbs
OS 5-40 lbs

Fattycakes
Small: Rise 14″-16″, waist 11″-20″, thigh 6″-13″
Medium: Rise 14″-18.5″, waist 12″-21″, thigh 6.5.”-13.5″
Large: Rise 16″-19″, waist 14″-24″, thigh 8″-14″

Here it is measured folded, stretched, width at the center, and width at the front panel:

I thought the sizing was generous, but not overly so.  The medium fit my 18.5 lb guy great, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it took him through potty training.

The diaper was very absorbent, and we had no fit issues or leaks!  The AIOs retail for $19-$24 (the $24 is for wool AIOs, which are coming soon.  I want, I want!)  Pocket diapers are $16-$21, fitteds $10-$20, and she even has doll diapers for $5!

I had intended to just try the trainer on him for now, but with all the absorbency, I ended up using as a diaper (I just checked it a little early, just in case!)  It was nice because it was super easy to put on him.

In these photos he is about 18.5 pounds, 30″ at 16 months old.  It fit him well and he definitely has lots of room to grow into it too!

Bumbledoo also makes (deep breath!): bumble all-in-two diapers, prefolds, diaper covers, pocket diapers, swim diapers, burp cloth prefolds (I love these!), inserts, wipes, organizers, booties (oh I wish I had a little girl to put those on!!) toddler aprons, mama cloth, nursing covers, nursing pads and offers diaper repair and embroidery.  Whew.  I’m wondering if there is anything she doesn’t do!

Giveaway: Bumbledoo is offering a blog reader $10 towards anything in the Bumbledoo Web Store  OR Bumbledoo’s Etsy Shop.  Yes, the trainers are handmade by WAHM Malia!  Very hard to believe based on the quality and craftsmanship, but it’s true!

A Year of Fluff Cloth Diapers Giveaway Inserts Made in the USA Natural Fiber Natural Fiber Diapers Review Sized Diapers WAHM made

Rumpsack Pocket Diaper Review & Giveaway (CLOSED 10/13)

>

rumpsack

I’ve asked readers to make suggestions for diapers they’d like to see me review/give away, and Rumpsack has been mentioned several times!  WAHMs don’t have deep pockets for advertising or reviews/giveaways, so it meant a lot to me when Rumpsack agreed to participate in my “Year of Fluff” event!

Rumpsack diapers are made by work-at-home-mom Janelle. Right now, she makes sized pocket diapers and inserts, though she is branching out!  When I took the diaper out of the package, I noticed not only how soft it was, but how well made it was.  The stitching was neat and even!

rumpsack pocket diaper rumpsack diaper back

I received a size medium pocket diaper, with a minky outer and microchamois inner.

rumpsack diaper snap closure

Rumpsack diapers are front snap diapers, but the diaper closes closer to the hip to prevent wing droop.  Janelle is a La-Di-Da approved seamstress, and Rumpsacks are designed to scoop below the belly.  Size Newborn fits 6-12 pounds, Small 10-20 pounds, Medium 15-30 pounds, and Large 25-40 pounds.  Prices vary between $14.50 and $17.00 depending on the materials used.

rumpsack pocket opening

The pocket is easy to stuff.  Inserts are not included with Rumpsacks, but Janelle makes a great insert that’s available as an optional purchase.

rumpsack pocket diaper insert

The insert is 2 layers of organic hemp fleece, which makes 6 layers of absorbency when tri-folded.  The inserts are available in 4 sizes to match the diaper sizes, and retail for $5.00 each.  Janelle included one with my diaper, and I’m grateful!  I much prefer to use a diaper with an insert that has been designed for and tested with the diaper, and this was far easier to fold than a microfiber towel!

A nifty feature of the Rumpsack is that the snaps on the front panel are female on one side and male on the other.

rumpsack diaper

This means the tabs actually snap to each other.  If you find yourself with a dirty diaper and no wetbag, simply roll the diaper up into a neat little package, and snap the tabs together!

The Rumpsack medium seemed a smidge smaller than some of the other mediums I have, but I think it may be partly because of the below the belly design.

The diaper fit my son really well, and he has plenty of room to grow into it (he’s about 18.5 lbs in these photos.)  We had no leaks, and the insert made the diaper nice and trim, as well as super absorbent (I love hemp!)  Thank you Janelle for allowing me to review a Rumpsack, I love this diaper!

FuzziBunz Perfect Size Diaper Review & Giveaway (CLOSED 10/9)

>

fuzzibunz diaper

When I was expecting my daughter (she’s 5 1/2 now) I did a little research and thought I’d want to try FuzziBunz Perfect size diapers.  6 years ago, there just wasn’t the wealth of information that there is now (or if there was, I didn’t know where to find it!) So, I thought this was an appropriate review/giveaway to start my one year cloth-iversary event!

I knew I’d probably need around 25 in each size however, I (wrongly) thought I would need to buy XS, S, M, L and XL diapers which is no savings over disposables.  That, combined with the cost of washing (we had city water with outrageous out of city water/sewer rates) and already feeling overwhelmed with the idea of new motherhood, closed the door on that!

fuzzibunz diaper

I’m sure you’ve already guessed that I’m kicking myself now!  Their site says: “Did you know that most babies only go through two sizes of FuzziBunz® from birth to potty training—Smalls from 0-6 months and Mediums from 6-36 months?”  I could swear that wasn’t there six years ago, ha ha!  I know now that my daughter probably would have needed just Small and Medium, perhaps some XS as well.    I could still be using them for my son now!

fuzzibunz diaper

My son was about 14 pounds when we started cloth diapering at 4 months.  I have tiny little peanut kids, so at 16 months now, he’s only about 18.5 lbs.  I have mostly one-size diapers because I thought it was more cost effective that way, but my son is still in the same size medium settings he wore at 4 months old (though I probably could have used small then if I wanted to.)

fuzzibunz perfect size diaper

(I do have a FuzziBunz one size diaper, but I don’t care as much for the fit when it’s on a smaller setting.)

fuzzibunz perfect size diaper

At first glance, the perfect size look very similar to the one size.

fuzzibunz pocket diaper

sized pocket diaper

fuzzibunz diaperperfect size diaper

They have a PUL outer, snap closures with the diagonal pattern (though this one doesn’t have the third hip snap that creates the befuddling triangular snap pattern.)

fuzzibunz one size perfect size

They have a microfleece inner to keep baby’s skin dry, and a pocket opening for the microfiber inserts.

fuzzibunz inserts

The insert for the perfect size is wider than the one size; the diaper is wider as well.

perfect size diaper

This brings me to the perfect size shocker.  As soon as I took it out of the package, it seemed huge!  I checked at least a dozen times to make sure it really was a medium, and then I started wondering if I’d received a mis-labeled diaper.  It is far larger than any other medium, larger than the largest setting of the one-size diaper, huge!

FuzziBunz O/S, Largest Setting

Note: In the picture above, I have the Fuzzibunz O/S on the outermost holes of elastic.  According to Fuzzibunz, the one size “large” setting is on hole #2, which is smaller than what I have in the picture.  As pictured, the elastic is nearly fully extended and there is very little stretch to it (not sure why the extra holes are there.)  The elastic is intended to tuck into the holes; I only left it out to show that it was fully extended and still smaller than the perfect size medium.

No, really.  It’s big!  That makes me think that FuzziBunz perfect Size would be an awesome choice for bigger or special needs children.  XS is estimated to fit 4-12 lbs (preemie to 4 months), Small 7-18 lbs or 0-8 months (I think my son could probably still be wearing a small), Medium 15-30 lbs or 6-36 months, Large 25-45 lbs or 12+ months.  They also have specialty sizes for Petite Toddlers, and Extra Large.

I promise, I’m not trying to make this entire post about how OMG big this thing is!

It fit really well, despite being big, and didn’t leak.  It was trim, as far as cloth diapers go as well.  I do wish FuzziBunz had an aplix closure option though.  P.S. I realize there are a lot of weird picture issues in this post.  I tried blogger, I tried livewriter, and I spent hours on this.  If I had tried again, I would have smashed my computer to smithereens, so you get what you get, LOL.
Giveaway: As a thank you for reading, and to pay some of my good fortune forward, I’m self-sponsoring a giveaway.  One winner will choose their size and color (subject to availability, I reserve the right to make substitutions) of a FuzziBunz Perfect Size diaper.  I will purchase from a reputable online cloth diaper retailer, and ship directly to the winner.
