Cloth Diapers Giveaway Inserts Made in the USA Natural Fiber Natural Fiber Diapers One Size Diapers Pocket Diapers Review Side Snapping Snap Closure

BabyKicks Bumboo Pocket Diaper Review and Giveaway CLOSED

>babykicks BabyKicks has been Family owned and based in my home state of Maryland since 2007.  I was really impressed to see on their history page that some of it’s production is done by local disabled workshops.

Their products are primarily natural fiber hemp products.  Here is some great info to answer the question, “why hemp?”
BabyKicks sent me a Bumboo Pocket Diaper, and they are sending one lucky blog reader the same!
The Bumboo Pocket is a one-size pocket diaper with snap down rise adjustment.
Bamboo Fleece stay dry inner.  (Oops, my mistake, bamboo fleece isn’t a stay dry material like microfleece.)
and PUL outer.
Several things make it different than any other diaper I have.
The pocket opening is in the front of the diaper.  When they’re in the back, there’s always that chance that you’ll have to stick your hand in a mess to pull the insert out!
It’s also the only side snapping diaper I have.  Instead of the wings wrapping around and snapping on the front, the front of the diaper wraps around and snaps on the side.
This makes it easier to keep diapers on streaker wannabes, and you can also use the diapers as pull up trainers.
In the photo above, you can somewhat see that there is fleece around the leg openings, to prevent wicking.
This is also the only diaper I have with a fully hemp insert (no microfiber.)
The multi color snaps are not only cute, but make it easier to remember which snaps fit, saving time on diaper changes.
The one size diapers should fit 7-35 pounds; the small setting is quite small.
The large setting, fully stretched, is in line with other one-size pockets I’ve tried.
I tried it on my son on the next-to-smallest size.
I’ll admit, the side snapping was hard to get used to.  After several years of closing diapers in the front, it’s just different!
We got a great fit, and there were plenty more snaps to get it more snug if needed.
The hemparoo joey bunz insert was very absorbent, and it will continue to become more absorbent as I wash it more.  I just need a little more practice stuffing the diaper to get the best fold/placement of the medium insert on smaller rise settings.  The diaper retails for $18.50 and includes the insert.  I think this is a pretty good price for a one size pocket diaper made with natural fibers.
P.S. Babykicks has a Facebook Fan Page and a Twitter Account.  I feel like a real dummy, but I didn’t think they had them since I couldn’t find them.  I think I was typing Baby Kicks instead of BabyKicks on Facebook, and I have an awful time finding people on Twitter.  All that came up was bunches of people who also mistakenly typed BabyKicks instead of BabyKicksUSA.  In any case, I’m not counting those as entries since it wouldn’t be fair to change the rules in the middle of the game.  Sorry folks, I think I need some sleep!

Kushies Swim Diaper Review and Discount

>

Kushies is a Canadian company that is the world’s largest washable diaper leader (didn’t know that until now!)

Kushies sent me a swim diaper to review.  I feel like I’ve had this diaper forever; I’ve been waiting to get some “action shots” but as soon as I got it, our weather turned cold, then rainy!

I received the fishy print, which is adorable!  It’s a size medium, which should fit 14-25 pounds.
Kushies has gender neutral, prints, boyish prints, girly prints, and this adorable girl swimsuit diaper!
I wish they made some that looked like swim trunks!
Just like their disposable counterparts, Kushies swim diapers are not absorbent, they are designed just to catch any solid waste.
The diaper has an easy Velcro closure, but the tie closure prevents little ones from turning the beach into an “au natural” beach!
The middle of the inner is super soft fabric.
It’s lined with a meshy fabric.
It fit wonderfully.
I’ve never had to put a swim diaper “to the test” so to speak, even in my disposable days.  I don’t doubt this would do the job!  As with any swim diaper, don’t put it on until you’re ready to swim, since they aren’t absorbent (as evidenced by the wet towel not visible in this picture, LOL!)
Kushies doesn’t just make diapers, they make clothing, accessories, blankets, bedding, toys and more!
They are offering a 10% discount to my readers to use at their store, kushiesonline.  Check out the clearance section for a great deal on the girls swimsuit diapers and some other cute stuff.
Enter code changediapers2010 to receive 10% off your order!
Thank you to Kushies for providing the review diaper, the freebie in no way affected my review.

Ecover Ecological Dishwashing Liquid Review

>

ecover

I don’t actually hand wash a whole lot of dishes anymore.  I often hand wash when I am baking and need some of my cups, measuring spoons etc. to be clean for another use.  This was true on Friday when I was making my hubby’s Birthday cake and needed the stuff to be clean in order to make the frosting.  My Ecover Ecological Dishwashing Liquid came in the mail that day, so it was perfect timing.
The Lemon and Aloe Vera Dishwashing Liquid came packaged in shredded material.  I love this re-purposing.
The scent was mild and pleasant, just a light citrus.
It’s both effective and environmentally friendly.
Simple ingredients, but do note that it contains wheat proteins.
I just used a little dab.
It was sudsy enough to work but didn’t make a big mess of bubbles.
I’m not too picky about my dish soap, but I know what I don’t like: too much/not enough sudsing, not rinsing clean, leaving water spots, strong scents (especially flowery stuff), leaving my hands either dry or slimy and other things I’m sure I’m not thinking of right now!  The Ecover was great.  The dishes were clean, my hands felt fine, the scent was light.
No suds mountain in the sink either.  Eek, my sink needs a good cleaning though!
One last shot, the fruits (cake?) of my labor!
Best.  Chocolate.  Cake.  Recipe.  Ever.  So gooey and delicious.  Even my Dad likes it and he’s a weirdo that likes everything “cakey.”  He even prefers dry, cakey brownies to rich, gooey ones.  I know, what a freak.  I must be adopted.
Ecover also makes automatic dishwasher tablets and powder, rinse aid, two other dish soap scents, lots of other environmentally friendly cleaning products, laundry products and even car and boat care products.
Check the store locator and then print coupons to save on Ecover products!
Thank you to Ecover for sending me the dish detergent at no charge.  The freebie in no way affected my review and all opinions (and cakes!) are my own.

Natural and Organic Food Review

HFCS Free Vermont Bread

>

I’m OK with high fructose corn syrup in moderation, but when it’s in every flipping thing on the store shelves, moderation is hard to achieve!  I’ve been trying to find other options for anything containing HFCS which we buy with any regularity.  I think ketchup and bread are the last ones we have to replace.
Arnold bread is the only one I’m aware of that’s HFCS free and available at my usual grocery store.  I’ve bought the country white before and it’s OK.  I like multi grain bread for sandwiches, but for PB&J, fluffernutters etc, there’s nothing like fluffy white bread.  I know, I’m ashamed.  I think it must be from growing up on 100% whole wheat bread (stored in the refrigerator for extra hardness, LOL.)  Sorry Mom, hope you don’t read this, hee hee.

This Vermont soft white bread was on sale at my local organic market for just a few cents more than my usual brand, so I picked it up.
It’s wider (more rectangular) than “regular” bread, and slightly higher in calories than what I usually buy.
It seems to have the same texture as the Arnold Country White.  It’s dense and has more of a homemade texture.
With a regular price of almost $5 per loaf, I don’t think I’ll be buying it again.  The Arnold bread is $4 at my store.
I really enjoy baking bread, so if all HFCS-free bread is going to have homemade texture, I’ll just go back to perfecting a sandwich bread recipe.  That one was OK with a little less sweetener, but it was gag inducingly salty.  I wonder if it was supposed to be 2 teaspoons rather than two tablespoons.
If anyone finds a great, HFCS free white bread, let me know!

BPA Free Eco-Friendly/Green Review

Boon Flo Review

>

Boon, Inc. is a company that makes great, affordable, BPA, phthalate and PVC free products for babies and kids, and donates 10% of their profits to charity
If the name sounds familiar, you may have seen the Boon Frog Pod
We’ve been using ours for over a year now and we still love it.
They have “odd ducks” (hee hee) and other bath items that are completely PVC, BPA and phthalate-free.  Another product I’ve seen in stores and loved is their countertop drying rack.  So unique and fun, but still no PVC, BPA or phthalates.  They have snack containers, utensils, plates, bowls and sippies that are also sans the nasty stuff.
I have to point out their animal bags.  We have weeded my daughter’s stuffed animals dozens of times, but they keep breeding.  I keep threatening to let hunters in here to thin down the herd, LOL.  This is just the most awesome idea.  Ingenious!
The last thing I want to show you before I actually get to the review is the Flair High Chair.  It has a sleek, modern design, pneumatic lift (really!) and a seamless seat.  As you may have already guessed, yep, no BPA, PVC or phthalates.
OK, so Boon sent me the Flo water deflector and protective faucet cover with bubble bath dispenser.  In our old house, we had the little guy pictured below covering the spout in my daughter’s tub.  It won’t fit on the faucet in this house.  I didn’t worry about it too much since my daughter is 5 and my son is still using the baby tub, but he will be taking baths in the “big tub” soon enough, and I need a cover!

The Boon Flo is way better because not only does it have soft materials to cushion from bumps, it actually creates a waterfall to help you rinse hair!  We use a cup to rinse hair now.

It also has a spot for the shower diverter, so you don’t have to take the cover off in order to use it.

It has a spring activated grip that makes it easy to install and remove.  I was really excited to install it and let my daughter test out the bubble bath dispenser.
Augh!!  It doesn’t fit!  I guess this weird freakin’ 90 degree angle faucet has doomed me.
On a side rant, I am still peeved that I even bought this faucet.  I loathe the stupid thing.  Not only do covers not fit on it, but as you can see, it looks perpetually filthy with water spots.  Who wants to clean their faucet with appliance cleaner?  Not me!  Guess who did just that right after taking the picture.  Yep, me!
So, why did I buy it?  Well, we wanted a set that had variable pressure and temperature (in previous homes we’ve owned, you could go from cold to hot, but on full blast only) and had a satin nickel finish.  The *(&((*^ in the plumbing department at Lowes basically said I was a sucker and a snob for wanting to buy Moen, which is what we have everywhere else in the house (except the laundry room, which is Kohler and actually brushed stainless, not satin nickel.)  I caved and got this.  It was less expensive, yes, but our Moen satin nickel faucets are a lot nicer and we have no problems with them, despite what he said.  >:-(
Back to the subject at hand.
I put it on the best I could, and it works well enough for what I want it to do (protect little noggins.)  It’s such an awesome product with the “waterfall” feature, the ability to put the bubble bath in and let your kids push the button to dispense it, along with the easy access to the shower diverter, sleek looks and easy installation.
I love Boon’s affordable, safe and quality products and I love their commitment to giving back.  Check out Boon’s Blog, Boon’s Facebook Page and follow Boon on Twitter to keep up on all the latest.
Thank you Boon for sending me the Flo at no charge.  The complimentary product in no way affected my review!  All opinions are always my own.
