Change-Diapers received product at no cost for review purposes. We were not otherwise compensated for this post and all opinions are our own. Both of my boys have always been super heavy wetters at night (really in general) so when we were asked to review the Truly Charis fitted diaper and cuffed wool longies, I was pretty stoked. We typically change him right before we fall asleep after he has already been asleep for a while himself. Then we have to change him first thing before getting out of bed so he doesn’t leak. I’ve never tried wool before, so this was my first experience.
Truly Charis is a small, family owned business located in San Antonio, Texas. Destini is the owner and creative designer of Truly Charis. Her love of cloth diapers, which blossomed into Truly Charis began shortly after she gave birth to her son in 2012. When her son was around 11 months old he had skin sensitivities and began wetting extremely heavy. Since he would break out in a rash or leaked through disposables, cloth was their only option. She, much like myself, was afraid to try wool. However, after a helpful Canadian WAHM, she took the plunge and attempted to make her own wool covers. As soon as she took the plunge, there was no turning back. In February 2014 she began to develop and test new wool products. She quickly gained support and built a great fan base. Her company continued to grow and offers innovative designs and uses unique, hand-drafted patterns.
The fitted is a super soft, hemp fleece diaper that is designed with snap-in layers so you can adjust the absorbency for your little one. The diaper comes with a one-size fitted shell, a snap-in contoured booster, a snap-in snake style insert and an additional snap-in booster. That’s a total of four pieces for the diaper. That is quite a bit of absorbency that you can customize for however heavy your little ones wets at night. The diaper is designed to fit babies from about 3 months to 3 years and is cut more generously to have a longer lasting fit.
I prepped the fitted by washing it about 3 times, knowing that the more it gets washed, the more it’ll be able to absorb. I typically hang dry my fitteds as I do with anything that has elastic but since it takes so long to dry, I toss it in the dryer to finish the job.
Since my son is a very heavy wetter at night and he nurses quite a bit at night still, I decided to use all the soakers. Even with how big and fluffy the diaper ended up, I still got a nice fit! I used the fitted with the cuffed wool longies I was sent. This combination was amazing for our heavy wetter.
The cuffed longies are made using a luscious merino wool fabric. It’s extremely soft, durable and has a touch of spandex for excellent shape retention. They’re available in all of the vibrant hand-dyed colors that Truly Charis has to offer. All seams are serged using a special textured thread for added softness and comfort for your little one.
The process of lanolizing wool was pretty intimidating for me. However, I was lucky enough that my local cloth diaper store, The Green Nursery, had a Wool 101 class. This was great because I was able to have a hands on learning experience about how to lanolize wool. I also have a super awesome friend who is really great at lonolizing who was willing to help. There are plenty of YouTube videos out there in case you need help. My friends over at TGN also posted their instructions from Wool 101 as well.
The cuffed longies fit my “little” guy really well. He’s about 30 pounds and roughly 33 inches. They were long enough to cover his length and big enough to accommodate his chunkiness. The little stretch they had was really great because it made for a nice snug fit. The wonderful thing about wool, is that you don’t have to exclusively use it at night. They make the most adorable pants! We not only used them overnight for a bullet proof nighttime solution but we also used them as regular everyday pants. We had a really nice day here recently so we went out to the park. He wore them the entire time he played. Not only did he look absolutely adorable in them, he didn’t get too warm wearing them. They were extremely breathable. I was sent the beautiful spruce color which is a nice dark green. The green goes really well with a number of his shirts and will pair well with his Grinch Christmas shirt!
Truly Charis cuffed longies are made to order and can be customized to your baby’s specifications. You can make one measurement adjustment at no additional charge. (Such as an inch added to the rise or a slightly higher inseam.) You’ll want to be sure to note these changes upon checkout. If more than one adjustment is needed, you should contact to discuss your custom order. If you’re interested in checking out the different colors available you can check out the Truly Charis B/S/T & Chat on Facebook.
