TushMate Cloth Diaper Review

I received a product at no cost for review purposes. I was not otherwise compensated for this post and all opinions are my own. When I first received my TushMate diaper, I was a little nervous. There were so many ways to use it; I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to figure it out. (Don’t worry, I did!)

The diaper & inserts came in cute little bags. I received the diaper (cover & liner) in hook & loop closure, two regular hemp/organic cotton inserts and one long hemp/organic cotton insert.

The diaper came with a manual, but the diaper is far easier to use than it seemed at first glance, and it is incredibly versatile.

The diaper is one-size via a snap down rise with 4 size settings.

Diapers are available with hook & loop or snap closures. The H&L is very sticky with super soft loop, and tiny plastick-y teeth.

What makes this diaper really cool is that it has a stay-dry liner (with elastic) that snaps out. This means you can use the diaper as a cover, as an all-in-two system, swapping out inserts, as a pocket diaper, or as an all-in-three diaper swapping out the insert and liner with each change.

A 2-pack of regular length hemp/cotton inserts retails for $9.78, a single long insert is $8.58, and a set of 3 liners is $5.88.

The cover has flaps in both the front and back, and you can snap inserts into the cover at either end, inside the flaps or on top.

Use one or more inserts, layered as it works for your baby, snapped in, laid in or laid on top. Use with prefolds, TushMate inserts, or other inserts. Top with the stay dry liner, or don’t. Wash after each change, wipe/air out the cover and use fresh inserts, use disposable inserts… whatever works for you. When I travel, I use covers and inserts, but I also use fleece liners to keep my son’s skin dry. I find TushMate to be easier since the liner is large, has elastic and snaps in place, yet they cost about the same as any fleece liner.

My son is 18 months old and about 22 pounds. I put him in the medium rise setting, with the long insert snapped in (wide portion in front.)

My husband thought he looked like he had a kangaroo pouch in front, but the absorbency was great!

This is the only hook & loop closure diaper I can let my son wear without pants. Try as he might, he wasn’t able to get it open!

When I washed the diaper, I left both the inserts and liner snapped in. The inserts unsnapped themselves in the wash, while the liner remained snapped.

With just one regular insert (wide portion in back) the diaper was even trimmer, yet still very absorbent.

The TushMate can be used in so many ways, and is really cost effective when used as an AI2/cover. Yet, you have the option of snapping inserts in and/or using the liner when you want it to be a super “easy” diaper for a babysitter, or even a new cloth diaper user, getting accustomed to cloth.
