New Contact Form, Affiliate Talk (and other stuff)

Now, I’ve added another way to contact me. Click the Contact Page Tab, which is at the top of the page, right under the header. Click the button, fill out the form, submit and your question/comment will be on its way to me!

I added another new page, an Affiliates Page. I’ve been kind of hesitant with the Affiliate stuff, but I did add some affiliate links for Diapers.com (use coupon code “gettenfree” to get $10 off your first $49 order), Kelly’s Closet (use code SUPERBOWL15 for 15% off your order-expires at midnight EST 2/6/11. 1 code per order, 1 use per customer.), Diaper Junction, Ergo Baby, Amazon.com, The Land of Nod, Pediped Footwear and Kushies Baby. I’ll have my eye out for another affiliate programs, but only for things I think you guys will be interested in, and that I can stand behind.

I don’t want to sound like I’m “begging;” that’s rather unbecoming, eh? If you’re making a purchase, I’d appreciate if you shopped through my links. I still don’t know how I feel about putting affiliate links within a post. I don’t want my readers to think I’m saying a product is great, just to try to get you to make a purchase through an affiliate link. I also want you to come here for great info, not a sales pitch.

I also added “places to vote for this blog” on the same affiliate page. I can’t say I 100% understand the stuff, but I added links to vote for us on Top Baby Blogs, vote for us on Top Mommy Blogs, vote for us on picket fence blogs and write a review on Alexa.com. If you have a quick second now and again, I’d appreciate a vote. I’d love for new people to find the blog!

Almost finished…I posted this on my Facebook page, but if you’re not a “fan” there, you missed it. We have over 1,000 RSS feed subscribers, and darn close to 1,000 Facebook “likers,” GFC followers and Twitter followers. When we hit 1,000 on all of them, I’ll be giving away a great prize package. If we get close but aren’t getting there, I’ll post some teasers of the prize package, but I don’t want to constantly yap about it, begging for new followers & annoying everyone. 🙂

Lastly! The new “look” of the blog is temporary, while my graphic designer works on some new stuff, and I muster the courage to switch to WordPress. If anything looks funny, or it just plain hurts your eyes, let me know!

GroVia All-in-Two Review & Giveaway courtesy of Bippy Diapers (CLOSED 1/25)

Bippy Diapers sells cloth diapers, accessories and Moby Wraps, and they sent me a GroVia AI2 in blackberry to review. I’ve been curious about GroVia (love GroVia wipes) but haven’t had a chance to try one until now.

GroVia diapers come in snap or aplix closures. The aplix closure diapers have tuck under laundry tabs. I did find them a little tough because the loop to tuck under is made of the same soft, but grabby material as the front of the diaper, so they wanted to grab on!

The GroVia pack I received (includes a shell and insert) is being discontinued. In the future you will have to buy the shell and insert separately, but Bippy Diapers still has the sets in stock while they last! Bippy Diapers sells the sets for $20.95, or shells alone for $16.95.

The GroVia shell is waterproof and the organic cotton soaker is backed with TPU as well. The soaker also has its own elastic, for an additional defense against blowouts. If the shell is clean, you can re-use it by snapping in a new soaker. If it’s damp, let it air dry between uses. If it’s soiled or very wet, you will of course need to wash it!

The GroVia is one-size via a snap down rise, and is estimated to fit babies from 8-35 pounds.

You don’t have to worry about a Velcro strip rubbing baby’s belly because there isn’t one! The whole upper front of the diaper is soft fabric that the tabs will stick to.

I think the blackberry is a nice purple; not too girly for a boy!

The medium setting fit well on my 21ish pound little guy. Yes, I realize I have it closed crooked. Diapering this child is like trying to diaper an angry donkey sometimes! I actually really like Velcro closure diapers for this reason, I’m much faster with them than with snaps! Despite the uneven closure, I didn’t have any trouble with the fit or leaks!

I’ve been asked about Kawaii quite a bit, and I was as curious as the rest of you. At $9.99 each, they seem too good to be true! I was surprised when I received it; it seems very nice, and reminds me of other big name o/s pocket diapers.

It has aplix closures with laundry tabs, a nice wide pocket, and came with two microfiber inserts.

Boba Baby Carrier Review PLUS Coupon/Discount Code!

NAP, inc. makes both the Sleepy Wrap and the Boba Baby Carrier. The Sleepy Wrap was a lifesaver for us. I love it so much that if I could marry it, I totally would. So logically, when I was looking for a soft structured carrier, I looked at Boba. The Boba is designed for babies 15-45 pounds; if you have a smaller baby, you will love the Sleepy Wrap!

I received the Organic Carrier in Aspen (retail $118), which is a nice, neutral color. The box it came in is really nice, I felt like I was opening a present!! It also came with a helpful instructional booklet, though you can also get information on their website. Boba recently released the Classic Carrier Collection. It is the same great carrier in fabulous colors, but comes with a lower price tag of $100 to go along with the non-organic cotton.

The Boba has a wide, padded waist band, and thick, cushy shoulder straps.

The sleeping hood attaches to the shoulder straps to support a snoozing baby’s head. It’s completely removable and tucks away neatly when not in use.

Unique to the Boba are the fully adjustable (and removable) foot straps, that provide proper leg support for older children (usually age 2 or so) and hold their knees up at hip level. They also slide along the waist band so you can get them perfectly adjusted for your little one.

The Boba is highly adjustable, and will fit a wide range of sizes. The adjustments are sturdy straps that come with the excess neatly folded up. Aside from the foot strap and hood adjustments, you can adjust the waist, chest/back clip, move the chest/back clip up and down, and there are two adjustments for the shoulder straps themselves (seen above).

Below is a quick video demonstrating all of the adjustments on the Boba. I did this video when I first received the carrier. It becomes easier over time to adjust the straps, and I’d recommend sliding each one back & forth many times when you first receive it, before trying to adjust it while wearing it.

The carrier was a little intimidating at first with all the straps, but it was so easy to put on!

I did most of these photos and videos with my camera on a tripod while my husband was watching my son, so I had to recruit a model to help me out! Obviously, he is a little smaller than the minimum 15 pound baby the Boba recommends.

Clip the waist belt and adjust the strap.

In the pictures above, I had one strap on my shoulder before I picked Manny Bear up. Normally, I could pick up my son and hold him against my belly. Supporting his bottom with one hand, pull one shoulder strap up. Switch hands, supporting his bottom with the other hand, and putting the other shoulder strap on.

Fasten the chest/back clip and tighten. I had a little trouble tightening the back clip, and with NAP Inc.’s help I discovered it was easier to tighten this all the way before putting the carrier on, and tightening the shoulder straps instead. I am far more petite than the average petite person (I measured my shoulder width at about 15″) so I need most adjustments all the way tightened to feel secure.

I will admit that it took quite a bit of playing around to get the fit just right, but once I did, it was wonderful. I didn’t know about all these awesome babywearing products when my daughter was small, so my babywearing experience with her was limited to the baby bjorn. Not only is the front facing carrier not recommended for several reasons, but it put so much strain on my shoulders that I couldn’t carry her for more than a few minutes, even when she was tiny.

One of the most important things about the Boba (to me) is that my son is sitting the same way he would be if I were holding him. His legs are held in a natural position.

My husband is more average sized, and the carrier fits wonderfully on him as well.

My husband also tried him on his back, but it was about bedtime and my son was not happy that I was taking pictures of him instead of holding him! We’re happy with the front carry right now with my son’s size and development, but the fact that we can use it in a back carry is great!

In conclusion, we LOVE the Boba Baby Carrier! My son is so happy when he is in it, and it’s very comfortable. I was sad when he seemed to be getting too big for the Sleepy Wrap, but now I can grocery shop, vacuum and do everything else I need to do in complete comfort. Woo-hoo!

The diaper EcoMom sent me is an organic hemp fleece fitted diaper by Play All Day.

The diaper is 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton fleece. I received a size medium, which fits 16-28 pounds.

The body of the diaper has 3 layers of organic hemp fleece, while the soaker has two. Edges are all serged.

The diaper is sized pretty generously to fit a wide range, but the snap overlaps help fit smaller babies.

Like other hemp/organic cotton products, it needed to be washed and dried 3 times on hot before use, to remove the natural oils. It will continue to gain absorbency through 8-9 washes.

After prepping, the diaper became, um, more fleece-y looking. I am sure there is a word for that, but it escapes me!

The first time I tried the diaper on my son, I didn’t double the soaker, and used it coverless.

Even though my son is on the smaller side, at around 18 pounds, I got a good fit.

We have used the diaper several times already. The first time, he “christened” it quickly, as he always does with new diapers. The second time, we got about an hour and a half out of it coverless, before I noticed some dampness on the outside in the wet zone.

With a cover, the absorbency is great. I think this would make an excellent night time diaper with a good cover or wool soaker, possibly adding a doubler for a very heavy wetter.

Hemp is excellent in a diaper, since it is very absorbent, without being bulky! The MSRP of the size medium is $17.50.
