Happy Heiny New Style One Size Cloth Diaper Review / Comparison to Old Style & Discount

My Happy Heiny Monkey Print and Peace Bear print diapers were some of the first in my stash. Within a few months, I figured out that they really didn’t fit my slender son well. By the way, yes I know my “reviews” were terrible when I first started!

Happy Heiny now has an improved style that better fits average to slender babies! You can still get the original style if you love them, but they are made to order. The Happy Heiny Store has several discontinued colors available, that are discounted $6.00 below the $18.95 MSRP (burgundy, candy, forest green, hot pink, light pink, peach & purple.) Get one without an insert and save another $2.00. I was able to get this purple diaper for just $10.95, less an additional discount (I have one for you too!) So, if you like one of the discontinued colors and you have a spare insert, you can get these for less than $10 each!

The other thing I wasn’t thrilled about with my old Happy Heinys was the Velcro closures/laundry tabs. The diaper I got this time has snap closures, with overlap. You can also get the new style with velcro closures, and the same colors are available at the discounted price!

The diaper has 4 rise settings, and is estimated to fit up to 35 pounds. Happy Heiny calls the sizes newborn, small, medium and large, but I tend to refer to them as small, medium, large and extra large, as it does run a wee bit big. I have reviews coming up for the XS pocket and the mini one size as well, and they are far more likely to fit a newborn than this, in my opinion.

The new style still has the same leg elastic and pocket opening.

Overall, nothing jumps out at me as being different.

Here I’ve compared each size, folded and stretched. The purple snap diaper is the “new” style and the peace bears Velcro closure is the “old” style.

The larger settings are most noticeably smaller, and the new style definitely fits my 24ish pound 25 month old better.

Most importantly, we’re not experiencing any of the leak issues we had with the old style, even when he “napped” (and by “napped” I mean fell asleep face down on the floor of my office because he refuses to take real naps!)

I’ve had my medium FuzziBunz Perfect Size Diaper for about 10 months now, and I still love it. Naturally, I wanted to add the XS/newborn size to my newborn cloth diaper stash for the new baby! The XS is estimated to fit 4-12 lbs (preemie-4 months), the small 7-18 lbs (0-8 months), medium 15-30 lbs (6-26 months) and large 25-45 lbs (12+ months.) My son was about 18.5 pounds at 16 months when we bought our medium FB perfect size. He is still rather petite at 23.5ish lbs at 25 months. The medium FB is definitely much larger than other medium diapers we were using, but it fit him well then and fits him well now with tons of room to grow. I doubt we will ever need to go to larges in the FuzziBunz! I don’t have a small though (ahem, I need to get one, don’t I?) so I don’t know how they fit vs. the XS. If you have bigger newborns, you may very well be able to use the smalls and mediums and that’s it!

It has easy snap closures, leg and rear elastic, and a rear pocket opening.

Just like the medium, the XS came with a microfiber insert that was perfectly sized to fit in the diaper.

Now here is my “newborn model” wearing it. I’ve also pictured him wearing a newborn disposable so you can see how the fit compares.

Our medium FuzziBunz Perfect Size is a “go-to” diaper for us when we’re going to be out and about. It fits well, despite it’s more generous size, and absorbs well. ~~I expect the same performance from the XS, and we’ll find out in December when I get to test the fit & absorbency on a newborn. Rumparooz Lil Joey Newborn Cloth Diaper Review

Rumparooz Lil Joeys are eeny-teeny, snap closure AIO newborn diapers. They are sold in 2-packs for $29.95. Most retailers sell them in packs of 2 of the same color, but Diaper Junction (affiliate link) allows you to choose two different colors.

It was hard to choose from 12 colors and 6 prints, but I chose lazy lime and platinum.

These are some of the tiniest newborn diapers I have seen, plus they have an umbilical cord snap down. I’d expect them to fit all but the smallest babies. They are estimated to fit from preemie/4 lbs up to 6 months/12 lbs.

They are smaller than even the smallest setting of the Rumparooz one-size diapers.

The umbilical cord snap down can of course be used unsnapped as well!

The inner is super soft, with the same gussets the one-size has. It’s much narrower to fit tiny babies without added bulk.

The sewn in soaker does make the diaper a bit on the fluffy side!

It even fits around his tiny chicken legs.

Naturally, my model isn’t a heavy wetter, so I can’t speak on the absorbency. I actually think this would be a great diaper for the newborn baby photo ops. There are so many colors available and they are just so.darn.cute. At under $15 each, they’re also not the most expensive newborn diapers out there. See this on my newborn.

Bottombumpers One-Size AIO from Mom’s Milk Boutique Review & Giveaway (CLOSED 6/28)

I first heard of Mom’s Milk Boutique shortly after starting my cloth diapering journey. Of course, they have lots of cloth diapers, but they also sell tons of accessories (wipes, solutions, creams, detergents, dryer balls etc.), carriers, wraps, nursing accessories, skin care, Haba toys and so much more! U.S. orders over $25 get free shipping every day and they use eco-friendly EcoEnclose polymailers. They have a gift registry, affiliate program and a brick & mortar store for those of you in Southern Illinois. Mom’s Milk Boutique sent me a Bottombumpers one-size all-in-one cloth diaper to try. I received the buttercup color, but they also have colors like black, cherry, pumpkin, espresso, and a gorgeous cobalt blue (among others!) The one-size diapers retail for $22.95 and the limited edition prints are $2.00 more.

The package included a Bottombumpers business card, which had handy washing instructions right there.

They have gentle, but effective leg elastic, and a soft inner lining.

The Bottombumpers is a really trim one-size diaper, thanks in part to the side snap closures (which also makes them nice to use in the early stages of potty training.)

What makes them far trimmer than other one-size diapers (in my opinion) is the unique size adjustment, which is inside the rear of the diaper, under the soaker. To picture what you’re looking at, the elastic you see at the top of the photo is the rear elastic of the diaper.

The soaker has two parts (better cleaning & quicker drying) that are 2 layers of organic cotton each, and it’s topped with 2 layers of super-soft bamboo velour (6 layers of absorbency total.) The soaker snaps to the white snaps in the rear of the diaper, so it covers any unused size adjustment snaps.

On a side note, I consider this an all-in-two (AI2) since it has a snap in soaker (Bottombumpers recommends removing the soaker for laundering.) However, some people consider a diaper an AI2 only if the shell is reusable. You will see this style marketed & sold as both an AIO and an AI2, it depends on the company. I don’t think it matters what they call it, as long as you know what you’re getting. I was mighty confused the first time I received an “all-in-one” that looked like this. As a cloth diaper newbie, I had only seen AIOs with sewn in soakers and AI2s (or fitteds) with snap in soakers!

There are 4 size adjustments. The top (white) snap is what the soaker snaps to. The green snap is the male snap used to adjust the size. The blue snap is newborn/small which fits about 8-15 pounds. The orange snap is small-medium or 12-20 pounds, yellow is medium/large or 16-28 pounds (the size my 23 pound 2 year-old is using) and unsnapped is large/x-large for 25+ pounds.

I’ve measured each setting folded and stretched, but as always, it’s not an exact science! 🙂

I did notice that the difference between sizes is a little more subtle than some other diapers. Here are the sizing snaps on the Bottombumpers compared to another brand with 4 rise snaps, so you can see that they are a bit closer together:

I put my 23 pound, 2 year old son in the medium/large setting. This seemed to be a great fit for him. He still wears a lot of mediums, but I’ve had to move him up to some larges, just in the past few weeks.

He has lots of room to grow, and I think he could probably fit in the small/medium setting as well!

To make a long story short, this diaper was on my son the other day, while Daddy was on diaper duty (I took a blissful solo trip to the grocery store!) I typically change him every 2-2 1/2 hours (or sooner) but this ended up on him far longer than that! It is very absorbent and we didn’t experience any leaks!

AppleCheeks Printalicious Print Reveal, Review & Giveaway U.S./Canada (CLOSED 6/14)

This is it! The Applecheeks Printalicious Print Reveal! Be sure to RSVP for the Ustream Live Broadcast event tomorrow, June 8th from 9-10 P.M.Eastern. There will be lots of prizes!

This was the first time I’ve gotten to try an AppleCheeks diaper, and I received one with the bamboo insert. AppleCheeks diapers are designed and manufactured in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The print I received is called wild child!

It’s an adorable print with elephants, rhinos, alligators (or crocodiles, I don’t know the difference!) and whales enjoying tasty apples!

The other new print is called “Delicious,” and it’s equally adorable! Some of the other Printalicious bloggers received this print, so check them out for more photos of it!

Since AppleCheeks are new to me, I’m going to do a rundown of the features too! It has easy snap closures, and you can adjust the waist and leg snaps independently to get a great fit.

AppleCheeks also have both front and rear elastic, to guard against leaks!

The envelope covers have a super soft microfleece inner, and gentle leg elastic.

The wide envelope opening is easy to stuff, and allows the insert to come out in the wash!

The bamboo insert is ridiculously soft. I’d love to have a shirt or blanket made out of this! Aah! You can use it in the pocket, or trifold it and place it inside the envelope cover like an all-in-two.

It’s super easy to use. Just trifold it, and stick it in the pocket!

The AppleCheeks system is a two-size system. Size 1 fits approximately 7-20 lbs and size 2, 18-
40 pounds. You can even get waist extenders to make your AppleCheeks work even longer for your baby.

Since the print reveal was secret, and done on a short time span, I didn’t get to use the diaper as long as I normally would before reviewing it, I used it just twice. However, I can already tell the fit is great (and trim) and the insert is super absorbent! I can’t wait to see everyone else’s babies in these great new prints!
