Kim’s Cloth Embroidered Diaper Review & Giveaway (CLOSED 5/11)

Kim's Cloth Diaper 1 back

I was a tester last year when Kim of Kim’s Crafts was perfecting her Kim’s Cloth diapers. They start at just $13.00, and go up to $19 for specialty ruffle butt or Kimbroidery (embroidered) diapers. Mine was $21.00 shipped!

Kim's Cloth Diaper 2 frontKim's Cloth Diaper 3 front

I have zero photography talent (less than zero if that’s possible) and black minky is especially hard to photograph! The photos I’ve taken don’t do this diaper justice at all. I’m really impressed with the attention to detail, including neat, even stitching!

Kim's Cloth Diaper 4 detail

The diaper has snap closures.

Kim's Cloth Diaper 5 snap closures

You can buy Kim’s Cloth Diapers with fleece or minky inners. Mine is minky!

Kim's Cloth Diaper 6 inner

It’s a pocket diaper with a rear opening. The pocket isn’t enormous, but I didn’t have any trouble stuffing it!

Kim's Cloth Diaper 7 pocket

My tester diaper had a microfiber towel for stuffing. I’m not crazy about them, largely because the feeling of microfiber on my hands creeps me out (microfiber inserts don’t do this to me, I don’t know why.) I’m also not great at folding them so they fit in the pocket just right.

Kim's Cloth Diaper 9 measured insertKim's Cloth Diaper 10 insert sitting on pocket

This time I received a sewn insert, which is 2 layers of microfiber sandwiched between flannel. It is small enough to fit nicely in the smallest setting.

Kim’s Cloth Diapers are “one size fits most” and are estimated to fit 15-45 pounds (based on Kim’s experience, tester and customer feedback.) They are a bit larger than some other “one-size” diapers, and I think the sizes are probably medium, medium/long, large and extra-large, but to keep things simple, I’m going to refer to them as small, medium, large and extra-large!

Kim's Cloth Diaper 11 size adjustment

The size adjustment is through 4 snap settings on the leg elastic. It’s easy to find the snaps inside the pocket, and they are sticky enough to not come undone accidentally, but not sticky enough to make it difficult to adjust!

Here are the 4 sizes measured folded and stretched. As always, this isn’t an exact science, since measurements can really vary depending on exactly how I pull the fabric, but it should give you an idea! (P.S. I know I should have lint rolled this between washing & photographing it. Sorry!)

Small (4th snap setting):

So then I tried him in the medium (3rd snap, second to smallest) setting. It looks a little funny because I literally adjusted and re-fastened the diaper while he was on the run, LOL.

Knickernappies One Size Pocket Diaper Review & Giveaway (CLOSED 5/3)

knickernappies cloth diaper

Last year, I won not one, but two Knickernappies 2G (sized) pocket diapers (now called Knickernappies Custom Fit Pocket Diapers,) but I’ve never tried a Knickernappies One-Size.

I tend to gravitate towards one-size diapers, even though my son has been in mediums since 4 months/14 lbs and is still in mediums at 23 months/22 lbs! My daughter was an itty bitty peanut, but my son started out so much bigger, I thought he’d be my hefty kid. His growth slowed and he’s been at the bottom of the charts, just like his sister. I kicked myself for not cloth diapering her, since she wouldn’t have needed anything bigger than a medium. (This was almost 7 years ago, when the only modern cloth I could find was one brand of sized diapers; I thought I’d need 25 each XS-XL and balked at the $2k+ price tag. Dumb me.)

knickernappies cloth diaper 00 back

I was so fortunate to receive a Knickernappies One-Size Diaper courtesy of Knickernappies. The diapers and the inserts are made in the USA. Knickernappies provides a two-year warranty on elastic and a lifetime warranty on snaps!

knickernappies cloth diaper 1 inserts

I received the turquoise, which is a gorgeous, gender neutral blue. The one-size diapers include two microfiber inserts (small and large) for $19.95. They are also available with the Loopydo inserts (my absolute favorite inserts) for $24.95. Definitely worth the $5 upgrade, though the included microfiber inserts are incredibly absorbent too!

knickernappies cloth diaper 2 snaps

Like the sized diapers, the one-size is a side snapping diaper, with 5 snap settings for a great fit on any size baby.

knickernappies cloth diaper 3 rise snaps

The one-size diaper adjusts to 4 sizes by way of rise snaps; Knickernappies refers to the sizes as small, medium-short, medium and large. Knickernappies has tested the diaper to fit babies from 8-40 pounds.

knickernappies cloth diaper 4 innerknickernappies cloth diaper 5 pocket

The diaper has a super soft, pill resistant microfleece (stay dry) inner and a rear pocket opening.  The elastic is lastin elastic, which won’t “go out” like the usual stuff.

Here is the small setting measured folded and stretched:

Medium-Short:

Medium (the size my son is wearing):

Large:

You can view my Knickernappies Custom Fit Diaper Review for measurements of the medium, but here are a few photos to show how the two compare:

knickernappies cloth diaper 20 one size vs medium wingsknickernappies cloth diaper 21 fronts

Obviously one is sized and one is one-size, but they are otherwise very similar. My one-size doesn’t have the front elastic that my sized diaper has though.

Here is the medium diaper vs. the one-size on medium:

and the medium compared to the one-size on large and small:

knickernappies cloth diaper 25 med vs largeknickernappies cloth diaper 26 med vs snall

I put my son in the medium setting. He is on the next-to-tightest snaps, so he has one more rise setting and three snap settings to grow into! Again, he is 23 months old and about 22 pounds (estimated, not totally sure!)

knickernappies cloth diaper 27 med os on 22 lb babyknickernappies cloth diaper 28 front

For some reason, he looks like he has a wedgie in these pictures, but he didn’t! It was just the way the PUL creased. The insert and inners weren’t giving him an atomic wedgie as it appears!

knickernappies cloth diaper 29 sideknickernappies cloth diaper 30 back

I can also assure you that the inserts are extremely absorbent. At the risk of making myself sound like a terrible mother, he had this diaper on (with the large insert only) for nearly twice the time I’d usually leave a diaper on him. We went to visit my Grandmother at the nursing home and when we came home, my husband was outside. The kids wanted to play outside, so I seized the opportunity to cook dinner uninterrupted. When it was ready, we got cleaned up, ate dinner, cleaned up again and…oh no! it had been almost 4 hours since I changed him. 🙁 The insert was pretty darn wet, but not a single leak!

Green Acre Designs Cloth Diaper Review & Giveaway U.S./Canada (CLOSED 4/19)

green acre designs cloth diaper

Since I started cloth diapering in 2009, I’ve heard Green Acre Designs (GAD) mentioned a lot. GAD makes sized pocket diapers and AIOs with PUL, fleece, or fuzzy “GADimals” outers. They also have one-size semi-fitted pockets, covers and inserts. Definitely worth noting are their husky medium and extra-large sizes. Weights are difficult to estimate since it really depends on the child’s build, but GAD estimates the extra-large will fit 29-55 pounds (Rise: 15-22, Waist: 14-28, Thigh: 11-19, Stride: 6), so check these out if you’re looking for a large or special needs child!

green acre designs with insert

I received a gorgeous embroidered medium pocket diaper and a one-size microfiber terry insert.

green acre designs one size insertgreen acre designs loop insert

The embroidered diaper retails for $23.95 and the inserts are $4.50 each. The insert is sewn in a loop for more thorough washing and faster drying, and the flaps give you the ability to put the absorbency where you need it (4 layers in the insert and 4 in the flaps.) Green Acre Designs also has sized microfiber and French terry inserts, one-size hemp French terry inserts and hemp French terry doublers.

The pocket diaper has elastic on both the front and back of the diaper to contain messes, and side snaps for a trim fit.

green acre designs embroidery covered

The diaper I received has an additional flap of PUL covering the embroidery to prevent any wicking through. This embroidery backing is an option available for an additional $1.00.

The diaper has 1 mil PUL outside and microfleece inside. All GAD diapers come with a one-year warranty on snaps, elastic and PUL!

I received the “green baby” embroidery on kiwi PUL with butter microfleece, but there are tons of color and embroidery options available!

I’m loving all the little details like the finished pocket opening edges.

The diaper I received is a medium. My son is about 22 months and 22 pounds, and it fits him wonderfully with plenty of room to grow. Here is the size chart (ranges of course vary greatly based on your baby’s size & shape!):

Pocket Sizing

I thought the diaper looked just as adorable on.

It fit really well, and the one-size microfiber insert was very absorbent. It did take me a little bit to figure out exactly how to fold it, so he has quite the booty in this picture!!

Sprout Change Cloth Diaper Review

sprout change cloth diaper

The Willow Store sent me a Sprout Change cloth diapering system to try. I’ve heard quite a bit about them, and was very intrigued by their one-size, reversible all-in-two system, with a unique size adjustment.

sprout change cloth diapersprout change packaging

I received a “string bean” shell, which is an adorable bright blue on one side, and bright green on the other. Sprout Change has tons of options for the absorbent inserts.

sprout change organic cotton inserts

I received two of the organic inserts, but they also have stay dry inserts, organic hemp prefolds, even organic or microfleece “soft sleeves,” so you can use extra microfiber inserts you have!

I love that the packaging includes the sizing instructions and guidelines!

sprout change use instructions

side snapping

The diaper is side snapping, but all of the size adjustments are made through hidden elastic inside the diaper.
sprout change front opening for leg elasticleg elastic on sprout change

The leg elastic is adjusted through a small opening located on the front of the diaper.

pocket for waist elasticwaist elastic

The waist elastic is adjusted through a snapped opening at the wing. This means that not only is the front of the diaper less bulky, but this is a very Daddy or babysitter friendly diaper, even for those who prefer Velcro. One you’ve adjusted the size, you’re set. There’s no figuring out which snap to use!

The 5 sizes are newborn (5-10 lbs), infant (10-18 lbs), crawler (15-22 lbs), walker (22-34 lbs) & potty (34+ lbs). I think you could also call these XS, S, M, L & XL. The packaging has recommended settings for each size. To keep things simple, I’ve taken photos of each size measured folded and stretched, set on the same setting for waist & legs (4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st and 0.)

Here is the Newborn/XS setting, 4th button hole for each leg, 4th on one side of the waist and 3rd on the other (couldn’t quite get it tight enough to do on both sides!)

When the diaper is “right side out,” the front of the diaper snaps to the wings, like a traditional side snapping diaper. When you reverse it, it still snaps on the side (vs the front) but the back of the diaper comes around to snap on the front panel of the diaper. It sounds complex, but it’s really quite simple. I was wondering how it would work!

side snaps front snaps to wingsreversed side snaps wings snap to front

I figured my 22 ish pound, 22 month old son would fit well in the walker setting. I knew the organic inserts would shrink when I prepped them. Initially, they were quite large!

Here is the insert measured before prepping (washing & drying 3+ times.)

After prepping:

After prepping, the inserts fit wonderfully in the walker size, without needing to fold them.

I probably could adjust the size even a little bit more; the beauty is that just taking a few minutes to get just the right fit, makes diaper changes super easy until you need to size up!

The diaper looked adorable, but also performed very well. The inserts are super absorbent, fit well with no shifting or leaking, and are very easy to use.

It was very easy to remove the wet insert, and reuse the shell, reversed for a change of pace!

Now I understand why people like Sprout Change so much! Shells retail for $16.95 separately, Stay Dry inserts are $4.75 and organic inserts are $5.75. You can save more by buying insert 6-packs or diaper packages/bundles!

Babykicks Organic Fitted Diaper Review

babykicks organic fitted cloth diaper

The Babykicks Organic Fitted Diaper looks very similar to the Babykicks pocket diaper.  Of course, since it’s a fitted diaper, there is no waterproof PUL layer, and it needs to be used with a cover.

babykicks fitted diaper sidebabykicks fitted cloth diaper rear

The diaper fits 7-40 pounds according to Babykicks, and is one-size via 4 snap down rise settings.

one size via rise snaps
This is a side snapping diaper, so it can easily be used as a training pant as well. The fitted doesn’t have the 4th/smallest white closure snap that the pocket diaper has.

3 settings on side snapping wingsdoesn't have the smallest wing snap like the 3g pocket

This is a pocket fitted, so the whole diaper is absorbent and the insert can be removed for more thorough cleaning.  Plus you can customize the absorbency by adding more inserts. The diaper itself is 55% certified organic cotton, 33% natural hemp and 17% polyester (for stretch.)

pocket for insert
The diaper comes with the same one-size Joey Bunz insert that the 3G pocket diaper comes with. It’s tapered at one end, so it fits nicely in the pocket, and it has lines to help you fold the insert in the right place for smaller settings. The hemp/cotton blend insert is super absorbent in my experience.

Here is the diaper measured folded and stretched on each size setting.  Definitely not an exact science, especially since this diaper is extra stretchy.  The photos/measurements were taken after prepping (washing/drying 3-5 times.)

I am personally more of a pocket diaper Mama than a fitted and cover Mama, but this is a great diaper.  It has the same awesome Joey Bunz absorbency of the pocket diapers, but the whole diaper is absorbent.  A fitted and cover also make for a great defense against explosive diapers!  One diaper retails for $19.95. See this on my newborn.
