Cloth Diapers Giveaway Made in Canada Review Swim Diapers Velcro/Aplix Closure

Bummis Swimmi Review Update & Giveaway (CLOSED 7/19) U.S./CAN

Bummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 1

It’s been over a year since I posted my Bummis Swimmi review! I actually bought it the winter before when I thought we were going to do YMCA swim lessons, but we ended up not. I bought the turtle print then since it’s hard to come by a swim diaper in the winter, but I really loved the clownfish print. We call this “the fishy diaper” in our house, but there’s actually another print called fishy!

I hadn’t actually tried the medium diaper from last year on my son, but I assumed he’d need a new one since he’s over 23 pounds now and the medium is supposed to fit 15-22 pounds. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to have a spare anyway!

Bummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 2 inner

Like most swim diapers, the swimmi isn’t absorbent, it’s just intended to catch, ahem, messes before they make it into the pool. Unlike an unstuffed pocket, the swimmi will allow the water to flow through, so your child won’t be waterlogged with a gallon of water in their diaper! The mesh inner is quite soft, and the Velcro closures are really easy to use. There are no laundry tabs, but I just close the diaper up to wash it and it works just fine.

Bummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 3 med vs lgBummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 8 med vs large front

No surprise, the large is a bit bigger than the medium! The small is estimated to fit 9-15 lbs, medium 15-22 lbs, large 22-30 lbs and x-large 30+.

Here is the medium (turtle print) and large (clownfish print) measured folded and stretched:

Bummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 4 med foldedBummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 5 med stretched

Bummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 6 large foldedBummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 7 large stretched

Here’s my son at around 23 1/2-ish pounds and 25 months old in the medium. This is what it looks like at more than a year old, just some pilling. Sorry, my guy is not exactly a willing model anymore so the photos are pretty so-so!

Bummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 11 med swimmi after a yr useBummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 12 med back

It still fits him really well, and he’ll get a lot of use out of it! Of course, if your child is close to the top of the weight range (or over, like mine is!) it makes sense to buy the next size up to get more use out of it. Even with a little extra “junk” (fabric) “in the trunk” it’s quite trim under a bathing suit.

Here is is (same day) in the large:

Bummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 13 largeBummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 14 large side
Bummis Swimmi Swim Diaper 15 large back

Using a Velcro closure swim diaper with no swimsuit (on a baby who has discovered the joys of riiipppping Velcro) might lead to some streaking, but it’s really easy to use and works great under a swimsuit, or on a smaller baby alone.

The other new print is called “Delicious,” and it’s equally adorable! Some of the other Printalicious bloggers received this print, so check them out for more photos of it!

Since AppleCheeks are new to me, I’m going to do a rundown of the features too! It has easy snap closures, and you can adjust the waist and leg snaps independently to get a great fit.

AppleCheeks also have both front and rear elastic, to guard against leaks!

The bamboo insert is ridiculously soft. I’d love to have a shirt or blanket made out of this! Aah! You can use it in the pocket, or trifold it and place it inside the envelope cover like an all-in-two.

I received the size 2, here it is measured folded and stretched (not an exact science of course!):

Since the print reveal was secret, and done on a short time span, I didn’t get to use the diaper as long as I normally would before reviewing it, I used it just twice. However, I can already tell the fit is great (and trim) and the insert is super absorbent! I can’t wait to see everyone else’s babies in these great new prints!

The “Little Bundle” (envelope cover & insert) I receved normally retails for $28.30, but will be $27.80 (50 cent discount) through June 14th, 2011.

Don’t forget, go RSVP for the Ustream live chat event to win great prizes! It’s tomorrow (6/8/11) at 9 P.M. Eastern!

Cloth Diapers Diaper Covers Giveaway Made in Canada Newborn Diapers PUL Review Sized Diapers

Bummis Super Whisper Wrap Review & Giveaway (CLOSED 1/27)

>

bummis super whisper wrap newborn

I’ve been wanting to try one of Bummis wraps, even though I really don’t need any more diapers.  I got a gift card to an online cloth diaper store for Christmas, so I snagged a super whisper wrap in the celery dot pattern, newborn size (7-10 lbs.)  The wraps are also available in small (8-15 lbs), medium (15-30 lbs), large (30 lbs) and extra large (40 lbs/white only.)

Bummis has 5 types of diaper covers, and this chart compares them all, to clear things up for confused people like me!

The super whisper wrap has aplix closure tabs that can cross over:

bummis super whisper wrap aplix closure
It has 2 mil PUL laminate sandwiched between 2 layers of polyester for added durability, and it feels quite sturdy.

bummis diaper cover front bummis wrap inner

It has a fairly generous cut, and can be used with prefolds, inserts or fitted diapers.

Bummis notes that the newborn size of the super whisper wrap is good for bigger newborns, but the Super Bright (exposed inner PUL, leg gussets, more lightweight, great for skinny babies), Super Lite (1 mil exposed PUL, trim fit, very lightweight) and Bummi Original (coated nylon and polyester mesh, very lightweight, very very trim, no elastic, use with inserts/prefolds only) will fit smaller newborns or preemies, starting around 4 pounds.

Here’s the Super Whisper Wrap Newborn size measured folded and stretched:

I called in my usual diaper model for help:

Here it is compared to some other newborn diapers (to compare size):

The cut/shape reminds me of the Bummis Swimmi swim diaper.  I can’t put the newborn cover to the test of course, but it is a very sturdy, durable cover, and a great value at $12.95! See fit on my newborn.

Giveaway: Bummis is offering one of my readers a Super Whisper Wrap in his/her choice of size and color.

My first sponsored review/giveaway for my “A Year of Fluff” Event is the AMP duo Pocket DiaperAMP Diapers is a Canadian company that makes sized pocket, AIO and AI2 diapers, inserts, boosters and the great one-size duo diaper I reviewed.

I received a bamboo insert, and a two layer hemp insert.  The inserts are color coded by their stitching so it’s easy to remember which is which.

What makes this a “Duo Diaper” is that you can use it with the insert stuffed inside the pocket, or lay it on top and use it as an all-in-two.  As long as the fleece isn’t damp or soiled, re-use the shell with a fresh insert.

It’s no secret that pocket diapers with a stay dry inner are my favorite, so that’s how I used it.  I prepped the inserts just a few times before the first use, and they have continued to gain absorbency as I use them.  The AMP is neither the trimmest nor the bulkiest diaper I have, but the diaper fits well and absorbs like crazy; no leaks!  The diaper retails for $18.95 from Snooty Booty Diapers.  A 2-layer hemp insert in lieu of microfiber adds about $4.50 to the cost, $5.95 if purchased separately.
Giveaway: Amp diapers is sending a Duo Diaper and hemp insert to one lucky blog reader!

All In One Diapers Cloth Diapers Made in Canada Review Sized Diapers

Mother-ease AIO diaper review

>

mother-ease
Mother-ease Cloth Diapers generously sent me an all in one cloth diaper to review.  Mother-ease is a Canadian company, and they have been making cloth diapers since 1991.  They actually have the term “one-size” trademarked and make all of their diapers from start to finish in their Ontario factory.
The side snapping AIO diaper has a knit cotton terry inner and a waterproof outer.
The elastic reminds me of the Kushies diapers.  I don’t know how well it would hold up against breastfed baby messes.
The diapers come in small (10-20 lb), large (20-35 lb) and extra large (35-45 lb).
It came with a brochure with information about the products they carry and materials used, as well as a care & washing guide.
I chose the large, since my son is about 17.5 pounds.  The first thing I thought when I took the diaper out of the package was that I had made a mistake!  It seemed huge!
That is the large Mother-ease diaper underneath a Bumgenius 3.0 on the large setting.  For the record, the large Bumgenius is supposed to fit to 30 or 35 lbs as well.  (4.0s say 35 lbs, large AIOs say 30.)
It seemed really wide as well.  You can see from this photo that it definitely is wider than the Bumgenius.
Folded, it’s nearly an inch longer than the BG on the large setting.
Stretching it gets you about an extra inch as well.
I was worried that when I put it on him, it would be falling off of him, or super bulky.
It’s definitely pretty basic in the way of looks.  It comes in white only.
I got a good fit around his waist on the snuggest snap setting.
No gapping at the leg either!
I was chasing him around…
Trying to get a good “action” shot…
But I got more pictures of a blurry leg or the empty carpet as he zipped away before the camera took the picture!
I was actually surprised that it fit him so well (he is in mediums in everything else) and wasn’t bulky at all.
It’s an all in one, so of course it takes a bit longer to dry than other diapers.  It may look basic, but it didn’t leak and it washed up very well after he “christened” it as he always has to do with new, pristine white diapers.  No stains!
If you have a bigger child and need something to take you through potty training, this is a great choice.  The side snaps would make it easier to pull up and down (instead of unsnapping) and if the extra large is sized as generously as the large is, I imagine it would fit some very large kiddos!
You can shop online whether you are in the U.S., Canada or International.  The all-in-one diaper retails for $15.95-$17.95 in the U.S. depending on size.  They also sell one size and sized fitted diapers, covers, wraps, swim diapers and other accessories.
Another product worth noting is their bedwetter pants which come in sizes fitting up to 65 pounds and absorbing 21 ounces!
Thank you to Mother-Ease for sending me the review diaper at no charge.  I was not requested or required to write a positive review, I was not otherwise compensated and the opinions are mine.
