Thirsties Sized Diaper Covers Review & Comparison To Duo Wrap

newborn thirsties cover

To go along with my Thirsties Fab Fitted vs Duo Fitted Review & Comparison, I decided I needed to compare the Duo Wraps to the Covers also!  As I mentioned before, I won a cover and fitted in a Dirties on Diapering backer giveaway

Pictured here in green (celery), I have a Thirsties Cover in Extra-Small.  These are sized covers with XS fitting 6-12 lbs, Small 12-18 lbs, Medium 18-28 lbs and Large 28-40 lbs.

They have hook & loop closures, laundry tabs, double leg gussets and a 1 mil wipe-able PUL inner.  They retail for $11.50 each.

Here is the XS measured folded and stretched:

Check out my full Thirsties Duo Wrap Review for all the details on that, but here are just a few photos for comparison.

The duo wraps of course have rise snaps to adjust from 6-18 lbs for size 1, and 18-40 lbs for size 2.  Here is the Extra-Small Cover vs the size 1 Duo Wrap (smallest setting on the left, largest on the right):

Finally, here’s my newborn “model” again, also pictured in newborn and size 1 disposables for comparison:

The duo wraps are a little more expensive at $12.75 for solids and $13.75 for prints vs. $11.50 for the covers.  According to Thirsties, the covers are a bit roomier to fit over fitteds, while the duo wraps are better suited for prefolds or the stay dry inserts.  I really didn’t notice this, but I’m sure it would be more apparent on an actual baby rather than a squishy “bear” bottom (har har.)

Thirsties Duo Fab Fitted Review & Comparison To Fab Fitted Diaper

thirsties newborn fitted vs duo sz 1 ftted

I have done a Thirsties Duo Diaper Review and a Thirsties Duo Wrap Review, so I was curious about the new Duo Fab Fitteds.  I was super lucky and I won a duo fitted and cover in a Dirties on Diapering backer giveaway!  I wanted to do a comparison to the discontinued sized fab fitted, but I didn’t have one, and I was having trouble finding one.

I emailed Thirsties hoping they had one stashed in a warehouse they could sell me, but no such luck.  Their customer service is so awesome that without my asking, they posted on their Facebook page asking if any of their retailers had them in stock.  I found what I was looking for at Fern Leaf Boutique thanks to their help.  I ordered on Monday, February 28th and even though FLB is in California (I’m in Maryland), the diaper was in my mailbox on Wednesday March 2nd!  Whoa!!

newborn fab fitted

I bought the fab fitted in the extra-small/newborn size.  Fitteds and covers aren’t my first choice, but they are fantastic for holding in the explosive newborn messes.  I don’t have a newborn but hey…don’t judge me.  I love cloth diapers!

The discontinued fab fitteds are sized.  X-Small fits 6-12 lbs, Small fits 12-18 lbs, Medium fits 18-28 lbs and Large fits 28-40 lbs.

They have a super soft outer, hook & loop closures and laundry tabs.

The fab fitteds have a sewn in microfiber soaker and stay dry inner.

Since I don’t have a newborn, I am using my usual “model.”  I’ve also pictured him in newborn and size 1 disposables, so you can compare.

The retail price of the Fab Fitted was $14.50, though I got mine for $10.95 and free shipping (yippee!!) since it was discontinued.

The Duo Fab Fitteds have a lot of the same great features, with a few improvements.  The MSRP is a bit higher at $17.00, but they are still a great deal when you consider that you are replacing 4 sized diapers with a size 1 and size 2 duo diaper.

The duo fitted comes in easy hook & loop closures with laundry tabs, or snaps.

It still has the same soft, stay dry inner lining.

The microfiber soaker is sewn in a tunnel design for more thorough washing, quicker drying time and the ability to stuff it further if needed.

Of course, the duo fab fitted has rise snaps to adjust the size of the diaper.  Like the other duo products, the size 1 is estimated to fit 6-18 lbs and the 2 fits 18-40 lbs.

If you wonder about sizing, my Duo Wrap Review has a photo of my son at 21 lbs in the size 2 on the smallest setting, and the size 1 on the largest setting taken the same day.

So, same great features, but now with the duo rise snaps (which don’t seem to add the bulk, probably largely because the soaker doesn’t fold/bunch on smaller settings.)  It’s available with a snap closure, and has an improved soaker style, and $2.50 higher price tag. See this on my newborn.

Babykicks Organic Fitted Diaper Review

babykicks organic fitted cloth diaper

The Babykicks Organic Fitted Diaper looks very similar to the Babykicks pocket diaper.  Of course, since it’s a fitted diaper, there is no waterproof PUL layer, and it needs to be used with a cover.

babykicks fitted diaper sidebabykicks fitted cloth diaper rear

The diaper fits 7-40 pounds according to Babykicks, and is one-size via 4 snap down rise settings.

one size via rise snaps
This is a side snapping diaper, so it can easily be used as a training pant as well. The fitted doesn’t have the 4th/smallest white closure snap that the pocket diaper has.

3 settings on side snapping wingsdoesn't have the smallest wing snap like the 3g pocket

This is a pocket fitted, so the whole diaper is absorbent and the insert can be removed for more thorough cleaning.  Plus you can customize the absorbency by adding more inserts. The diaper itself is 55% certified organic cotton, 33% natural hemp and 17% polyester (for stretch.)

pocket for insert
The diaper comes with the same one-size Joey Bunz insert that the 3G pocket diaper comes with. It’s tapered at one end, so it fits nicely in the pocket, and it has lines to help you fold the insert in the right place for smaller settings. The hemp/cotton blend insert is super absorbent in my experience.

Here is the diaper measured folded and stretched on each size setting.  Definitely not an exact science, especially since this diaper is extra stretchy.  The photos/measurements were taken after prepping (washing/drying 3-5 times.)

I am personally more of a pocket diaper Mama than a fitted and cover Mama, but this is a great diaper.  It has the same awesome Joey Bunz absorbency of the pocket diapers, but the whole diaper is absorbent.  A fitted and cover also make for a great defense against explosive diapers!  One diaper retails for $19.95. See this on my newborn.

Babykicks 3G Pocket Diaper Review & Giveaway / Comparison To Bumboo Pocket (CLOSED 3/15)

babykicks 3g pocket diapers

I posted my Babykicks Bumboo pocket diaper review about 9 months ago, and I was curious about how they compared to the new Babykicks 3G pocket diaper.  I purchased several with a CSN gift card to both compare and review, and to give away and donate!

babykicks bumboo vs 3g pocket diaper
I like the Bumboo pocket, but the 3G has minor changes that make me like it even more.  They still retail for $18.50.  One noticeable change is the addition of the newborn snaps.

newborn snapsnewborn snaps on babykicks 3g

The newborn snaps are two male snaps on the wing, next to the closure snaps (this is a side snapping diaper.)  It took me some hunting to figure out how to use them, so I actually made a video demonstrating how, in addition to photos below.

If you don’t care to watch videos (or if you’re “NAK” like I often am, LOL) here is a photo demo:

First, you fold the pocket into itself:

folding pocket inpocket folded in

Then bring the tab with the newborn snaps over the front.

tab crossed over

Then, you fold the other tab over to snap it to the newborn snaps.

fold other tab & attach to newborn snaps
newborn snap usedview of the top on newborn settingside view of newborn setting

This is a side snapping diaper, but when you’re using the diaper on the newborn setting, you snap the tabs to each other.  They do not actually attach to the rest of the diaper at all.  Since the newborn setting is for new babies (a week or two old) they aren’t exactly mobile, and the pressure will hold the diaper in place.

size using newborn snap

It really gets very tiny!  The inner of the diaper is quite absorbent, and you should be able to use it for a brand new baby without an insert, though you can also fold the insert and stuff the diaper if you wish.

using newborn rise snapside view of newborn rise snap

Like the Bumboo pocket, the 3G has 4 size settings via a snap down rise.  Above is the smallest setting.  Babykicks estimates the diaper will fit 7-40 pounds, but I’m not sure if they consider the sizes XS-L or S-XL.  I’m referring to them as XS-L based on the size compared to other diapers I have.

Here’s another video comparing the two diapers, and pointing out the differences between them.  I’m also doing the same in photos below.

It’s difficult to show in photos or videos, but the 3G has a slightly wider pocket than the Bumboo.  In all the photos below, the Bumboo pocket is in white and the 3G is in blue.

3g has slightly wider pocket

The front panel of the 3G is also a bit wider, and the tabs/wings are slightly narrower.

wider front panel3g has narrower wings

The 3G is also a little bit narrower through the crotch for a trimmer fit.

3g is slimmer through the crotch

The wing and front size changes give a bit more leg room on the largest setting.

more leg room on largest settingmore space for chunky thighs on largest setting

I love the wider pocket, and I love the new insert. The Bumboo pocket came with a medium Joey Bunz insert, which is contoured on both ends.  The 3G comes with a new one-size Joey Bunz, which is tapered on one end, and also has lines to guide you in folding it down.

3g insert is tapered at one endone size joey bunz has marks for folding

My old insert is a funny color because it was accidentally thrown in with a load of microfiber inserts and bleach.  Oops!

insert fits betterfront of 3g is smoother on smaller settings

I think the tapered insert fits much better in the pocket, and the front of the diaper is much smoother on smaller settings.  I had a hard time getting the Bumboo insert in there just right, and I had tried putting the folded portion of the insert both in the front and the back without great results.  Stuffing the 3G with the contoured portion in the back, then folding the tapered portion in front (this is a front opening pocket) seems to work very well.

babykicks bumboo vs 3g pocket diaper

The Bumboo pocket only came in white with multicolored snaps.  The 3G comes in Azure (blue), Poppy (red), Meadow (green) and also the white with multicolored snaps.  They both still have the 4 rise and snap settings, natural fiber inner with fleece around the edges (to prevent wicking) and the fleece gussets.

I had been putting my son in the Bumboo on the large setting, since the insert fit better that way, but he really needs the medium.  Here he is in the 3G on the medium setting.  He is 21 months old and weighs about 21 pounds.

All In One Diapers All In Two Diapers Cloth Diapers Giveaway One Size Diapers Review Sized Diapers Snap Closure

Itti Bitti – Bitti d’Lish AIO & Bitti Tutto O/S Diapers Review & Giveaway (CLOSED 3/8)

Itti Bitti Diapers

Itti Bitti is an Australian company, but their diapers are coming to the U.S. in March 2011.  I was able to try the Bitti d’Lish sized AIO and the Bitti Tutto One Size AI2.

Itti Bitti D'Lish AIO Cloth Diaper

I chose the Bitti d’lish in the size large.  The small fits 8-16 lbs, medium 14-26 lb and large 23-37 lb.  My son is only about 21 lbs at 21 months, but I chose the large since he was pretty close to the size cut off, and because the Itti Bitti diapers tend to fit in a more low-rise style.

Large itti bitti d'lish diaperback of itti bitti d'lish diaper

The bitti d’lish has snap closures, with an overlap to fit smaller babies.

It has a sewn in soaker as well as snaps to allow you to add a mini soaker.  The mini soaker is not included with the diaper, but you will see it in the Bitti Tutto review.

sewn in soakercan add a doubler

In addition to the absorbency sewn within the diaper, there is a sewn in flap soaker (this is where you add the booster)

bamboo and organic cotton flap soaker padsewn in flap soaker

Since they are designed to fit with a lower rise, they are a bit smaller than other large diapers I’ve used.  here it is measured folded and stretched:

large itti bitti diaper measured foldedlarge itti bitti measured stretched

It fits well on my son, but I am glad I went with the large and not the medium, since I prefer a higher rise diaper.

The minky outer is super soft, and the microfleece inner keeps baby dry.

itti bitti leg openinglarge itti bitti d'lish diaper on 21 lb baby

Even without using an added booster, the diaper was very absorbent, and we had no leaking issues.  Itti Bitti suggests that you can expect 3 or more hours of use, though you will need the booster for heavy wetters.

large itti bitti d'lish diaper sideback of itti bitti d'lish diaper

The MSRP of the Bitti d’lish is $18.95

itti bitti bitti tutto one size diaper

The Bitti Tutto is a one-size diaper, and is quite a bit more expensive at $26.95.

itti bitti one size diaper

It has a snap closure with overlap, and 4 rise settings.  Itti Bitti refers to them as newborn/small, medium, large and extra-large.  Since they are lower rise, they seem to fit more like newborn, small, medium and large.

4 rise settings snap closure with overlap

The Bitti Tutto has hip snaps to prevent wing droop on small babies, plus built in covers for when you’re not using them.

The Tutto has an inner gusset that goes around the back and legs, to prevent blowouts.

The diaper came with instructions on how to snap the soakers:

However, I found all the soakers to be rather overwhelming, and it took me a bit to figure it all out.  I made a 6 minute video which demonstrates the ways to use the soakers.

Here is the newborn/small setting measured folded and stretched:

On the newborn setting, adjust the length of the long soaker using the blue snaps, then snap to the yellow snaps in the rear of the diaper and tuck it under the gussets.

You may also use the shorter soaker snapped to the purple snaps in the front of the diaper, attaching the doubler underneath with the red snaps.

Medium setting:

For the medium-extra large settings, you can use the long soaker (snapped to yellow in the back) adjusted to the proper length (using the blue snaps.)  When you attach the doubler (using the red snaps) there is an additional blue snap to replace the one the doubler covers.

You can also use both the long soaker in back and the short soaker in front.

You can reverse the soakers to get more absorbency up front for boys.  The soakers are much easier than they seem, and I definitely recommend watching the video above!

Though it fits well, he could definitely still wear the medium as well, it would just sit a little lower.

Itti Bitti diapers come in an amazing rainbow of colors, are super soft minky, fit well and absorb like crazy.  There’s definitely a learning curve to the soakers, but it’s so simple once I got over my initial fear of all the soakers!

Giveaway: Itti Bitti is offering one of my readers a bitti d’lish in their choice of size and a Bitti Tutto.  Itti Bitti will choose gender neutral colors for the winner.  (ARV $45.90.)
